What sort of tropical freshwater fish live peacefully with each other?
I’m thinking about getting a tank of tropical fish. I’ve kept cold water fish for so long that I’ve decided I’m now going to try my luck with keeping tropical fish. What are some good suggestions for fish that I could start with? What sorts of tropical fish live well together? Are there some fish, that although they’re peaceful don’t live well together?

Maybe you should try asking this question to the lad/gal from your local pet store ^^
As I remember Zebra and some Tetras, but ask a the tropical fish store. Also upside-down Catfish are fun.
The store I visit have their fish separated into temperament categorizes so it is helpful to know the mellow fish and the fighters and stock your tank appropriately. You should get a couple snails. They are natural vacuum cleaners. Get a bottom feeder of some kind like a pleco. It greatly matters how many gallons the tank is. A 10 gallon is going to greatly limit your options as the 1 inch(of full grown fish) per gallon rule means you won’t get much more that 5 fish in there before the tank water becomes too toxic to manage. If you visit the Tetra site http://www.tetra-fish.com/TetraFish.home they will get you started with email reminders of what to do, when, and so on. You have to set up a tank slowly to give it time to cycle first. Too many people just get a bunch of fish and put then in all at once and they all die.
Take @woodcutter‘s advice. The water you get from city water taps has to much chlorine in it to keep fish healthy. There are several fish “personality’ types based on their usual behaviors. Some fish, such as most tetras and mollies get along well with each other while there are some fish such as most cichlids that are “bullies” and don’t play well with others. Get a good book and read up on the types available. Go into a pet store with something of an idea what you want. Some places train their employees and some don’t bother. Make sure you have at least some idea what you want.
Aquariums are great. Studies have actually been done that show that people’s blood pressure drops when they spend time watching aquarium fish. Have fun! Start out with at least a 20 gal long. The last fish I had were actually fancy goldfish (not comet goldfish!), but I love some types of gouramis also. (My favorite are Pearl Gouramis.) I forgot danios! I guess you could say that I love most tropical fish.
Oh hey! That’s freaking awesome!
@FluffyChicken indeed. I have them hanging all over at my work to help customers out. :)
