Do you ever do or say something and then say to yourself “I’m turning into my mother” or “I’m just like my dad?” What quotes does or did your mom or dad use that you find yourself using? What quirky little habits does or did your parents use that you find yourself doing?

I’m not one of those people that start talking/acting like a person/group after being immersed; I try to be my own person (which I am obviously inspired by some one/people). My family is kind of like this, though, especially my dad’s side. Whenever we are at a reunion, they always pick up on others’ phrases, etc…most of the times I notice it is picked up from me, and then I look like the idiot. I find it funny because I know that those certain people have just started using those different words/jargon, and usually there are a few certain (obscure) words/phrases that I find are used mostly during the span of time that I see them. I tend to be a little too observant
I have lived in boston for a majority of my life, and i have not picked up on the accent. I was born in Providence, and lived their for the first threeish years of my life. I would say that I have more of a Rhode Island accent, if any at all. My uncle married a woman from georgia who is black, and he has picked up on the way that they talk.
Some times I feel like a wise old sage. That’s how I started seeing my mom after I started having kids.
Sometimes I get scared when I think I laugh like my mother.
When I get up in the morning, and look in the mirror, I am beginning to see my grandfather.
That is scaring the fuck out of me.
@Neizvestnaya – Me too! Mr. Fiance calls me by her name when I do that :)
I’m an alcoholic douchebag and I’m going through menopause.
A couple nights ago, I was licking jelly off my boyfriend’s penis. And I thought, “Oh my God – I’m turning into my mother!”

When I tell my son I don’t like his “shouty” music! Oh god I am so old…..........
This happened to me before I even left my teens.. I was babysitting some kids and actually heard one of my mother’s patented phrases leave my lips.. (“Don’t antagonize your sister!”)
I have become quite a bit like my dad. Which is a really good thing. He was an amazing guy.
I’ve often said something negative that I realize is my mother talking! Also, as I cope, deal with, watch, etc., my kids doing this and that, I feel my dad.
My dad is always in a good mood and I got that from him…he is a great guy and so fun to be with. My mom is moody, bossy and controlling, but she doesn’t see herself that way. I pray everyday for me not to be like her, but sadly my sister says that I am like her in many ways…it makes me sad.
@Porifera I tell myself that as long as I know, I won’t behave like my mom did.
@faye I know what you mean, but unfortunately some behavioral patterns are much too strong to be wiped out even if we are aware of them.
