Could this really be true about the Healthcare bill?

Asked by Aster (20028points) April 10th, 2011

I heard some people on tv say that the bill allows euthanasia under certain conditions. Is this true and if so, under what conditions?

Sounds like a conspiracy theory to me.

Aster's avatar

It does to you? Really?? By whom against who? So you’ve heard of it also or is this false?

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

You mean the death panels? False. False and a half.

KateTheGreat's avatar

I’ve heard it before and my political science class debated it. We’re pretty sure that nothing like that will happen. It doesn’t say anything like that in the bill and Obama has addressed the issue, calling it completely false.

Stop watching Fox News. They aren’t a reliable journalistic source.

@MyNewtBoobs Hahahahahahaha, that comment made my day! Fox News is definitely a channel full of idiots.

I’ve not seen anyone specifically call out any portion of the legislation that actually refers to this. I’m inclined to think that this is just bad politics.

It is not written in the bill. But only an idiot could fail to see the inevitability of government sanctioned euthenasia when demand for treatment is high, and the collective budget is tight. Can’t you just hear the morons in Washington saying “We must be compassionate. We can not let these poor sick people suffer for one more minute than is necessary.”
They already say that kind of stuff. They are not going to change simply because it involves euthanasia.

gmander's avatar

@josie – well, I’m an idiot then!

It’s not the government you need to worry about, it’s the hospital administrators and your own family! Don’t kid yourself that people get ALL the treatment they could to extend their lives even with the best insurance, or even pots of your own money. Can you trust all your family to spend all the money on you as you slip away?

Aster, we have had the discussion about reading e-mails from your grandma before. This is at least the third time you have posted stupid shit from something e-mailed to you. It is all bullshit and you are falling for it.

And Josie is making shit up too.

KateTheGreat's avatar

@math_nerd So abrasive, but I love it.

Aster's avatar

@math_nerd huh? Email??

I have not read the bill obviously. But could it have a “Right to Die” clause in it and opponents twisted it around to read death panels?
Politicians and sensationalists being who they are I wouldn’t put it past them.

zenvelo's avatar

The ones who deny care all the time are for-profit health insurance companies. They’re the ones to fear, and it has nothing to do with the health care law.

LuckyGuy's avatar

I just did a little checking. There are lots of rabid opponents twisting “Right to Die” into “Duty to Die”.

augustlan's avatar

Poppycock. To put it nicely.

crisw's avatar

Like almost everything ever posted under “Could this really be true” it’s absolute, profound, genuine 100% bullshit . To put it not so nicely.
