What are the prices of your problems?

Asked by Hypocrisy_Central (26879points) April 11th, 2011

I hear people complain about this problem or that, but most of the problems have a price tag attached to it. Someone need to replace a washing machine, hot water heater, a vehicle, all of that could be rectified easy of you had enough money where doing so would not be a strain. You can’t see well and need an eye exam, no problem much if you have insurance but if don’t then it is a problem. You want to go to college, no scholarship, no financial aid, you have a problem. Even getting that tumor removed has a price tag; you just hope the insurance covers it so it won’t be a problem. What are your top three major problems and what price would make them go away?

Currently my problem is that I’ve injured my leg which hopefully will heal in time for the great match Saturday. Not really any money that could solve that.

I suppose a few thousand euros up front would solve the problem of the price of getting a MSc having been raised by that amount, but I’ll manage without those too, I suppose. Perhaps I’ll just be more reluctant to start my own company or something.

Debt accumulated due to 3 consecutive winters that my husband got laid off.
Broken dishwasher, two broken water heaters, a leaky pipe, and some needed car repairs.
No health insurance, and unable to afford to get any.

It would take a lot of money to fix all of that.

My major problem is a person, and cannot be solved with money.

The secondary one is good paying employment for all the working members of my family. My oldest DIL finally got a good job, after many months unemployed, one adult grandson is finally working, but minimum wage, part-time, the other two are still looking.

My Youngest son is finally working after a year unemployed, but the job is low pay, part time, 40 miles from his house.

Third, a serious health problem, is my oldest son. He suffered a severe stroke 3½ years ago, and a very bad broken leg in a fall last year. He has medical coverage as a citizen of Sweden, but with more money and an adaptive job, he could regain custody of his daughter, whom he raised on his own for 8 years.

My three primary problems and their prices

1. Incurable cancer – no known price.
2. Type 2 Diabetes – no known price
3. All my children and grandchildren live over 1,200 miles from me – price to move them all, and to find new jobs for my 5 grown children… difficult to calculate, but probably well over $200,000.

MORAL: Lots of things cannot be solved with money, perhaps not even with massive amounts of money.

@augustlan No health insurance, and unable to afford to get any. That would be a big problem if you had to have a tricky surgery and pay out of pocket.

1. Incurable cancer – no known price.
2. Type 2 Diabetes – no known price
That is true, some health problems have no price to cure them or can’t be cured at any price. Sorry about the cancer. Maybe a bone marrow transplant mght help the diabetes but if the insurance don’t cover treatment like that which might be seen as experamental, etc out of pocket would be a big problem. Or at best if enough cash was available you could have a personal nutritionist steer you to the right foods that would work best with the diabetes.

Thank you for the thoughtful response! : ))

I already have a fairly well-established diet, especially since I have diabetes. I take an almost mind-boggling number of dietary supplements. And I recently went to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston to be checked for any experimental therapies that might extend my life a bit more. Not only did they not find any evidence of cancer forming anywhere in my body, but the experimental drug they recommended ( in the even they DID find something ) would cost about $10,000 a pop, and might not be covered by my insuance! OMG!

But both the cancer and the diabetes seem to be under control for now, so perhaps we’re doing something right as things are? Who knows? I’ve been living on borrowed time since the night before my 25th birthday anyway, so it’s all good. : ))

Hell, I might even have so many vitamins and stuff floating around in my bloodstream that it scares the cancer away! : D

This sounds fantastic, but why did they recommend a drug? What for?
I’m a vitamin fanatic too. I still take fish oil but I added or switched to a liquid whole=foods supplement I keep refrigerated along with a “green” powder that tastes like strawberries=it’s even pink. I put both in the Vitamix blender with some milk and fresh fruit and I actually can FEEL the difference for the first time since I’ve been overdosing on vitamins for decades.
Again, it sounds like you’re doing great. Don’t let them keep CAT scanning you; too much radiation that builds up. If you allow it, they’ll have you in a clinic at least once a week for more and more testing and some tests have nasty side effects. Give your body what it needs to heal itself like you’re doing now and stay away from biopsies and radiation! GL
