Would anyone be able to give me a primer on medieval humanism, please?
I have jury duty today, and am forced to miss the lecture in my Medieval Europe class on humanism. Unfortunately, I have a paper due on Wed. on the humanism of Abelard and Heloise, and the soonest my teacher can catch me up is late tomorrow afternoon. So can anyone help me out so I can be mulling over the paper in the meantime?
*Medieval humanism is not the same as modern humanism.

I just posted several links for you and somehow they got lost as I was clicking back and forth. Unfortunately, I am on the run so I can’t reconstruct but you obviously have the internet so here’s what I did:
Google: “Abelard and Heloise and humanism” – several pertinent discussions and Google e- books came up. Check for .edu or apprpriate domains.
Let me know if you need more help. Medieval history was part of my undergraduate degree and as you know, I serve as Fluther’s private reference librarian.
I don’t have time to check JSTOR but when you can get in to that, it should help you too.
I must not be doing it right, because I can’t find anything on a Google search that actually explains it. I get more of a “Oh, sure, the humanism of Abelard and Heloise…” kind of way, but nothing deeper.
Try this article for a discussion of medieval humanism although ti is focusing more on early Renaissance times. You may be able to make some connections from it to Abelard and Heloise. Again, I’m in the middle of a very busy day or I would love to research this more. Let me know if this helps; I may have more time later.
