I’ve been studying almost all week, and I have a big Geo test tomorrow. The teacher gave us a study guide last week that is exactly the same as the test. I answered all the question’s on the guide, so I thought, all I have to do is memorize the answer’s I wrote down.
But it’s not so easy. I have a hard time retaining the information, and usually forget it all the next day. I keep getting distracted, with other responsibilities, and this test is important. How can I study properly for this?

In order for you to retain the information in your long-term memory, you need to do more that rot memorization of the material.
Try making various graphic organizers classifying the information in different ways. By visually representing the new information you will see the connections between concepts and details in a more clear manner. You won’t feel you are actually memorizing it, but your mind will be processing all the facts and reatining them for further retrieving. Make sure you understand the questions and exactly how and why the answers do respond the questions. The key is understanding what you are doing, if you don’t relate the info to real experience it will seem useless and it will make it more difficult to learn it. Good luck in your exam!
just remember key words for each question and the rest will come with the key words
I have found that I do better with a good night sleep before the test. That way the brain is rested and more able to function during the test.
Try to relax before the test. Don’t drink and stimulants and eat a light breakfast (toast and or wheaties). Have self confidence.
Then just give the instructor what is requested in the test. One time I simply outlined the pertinent information on an essay exam which got me an F. The instructor want me to work with the information not just regurgitate. The next exam I gave all the information with in a matrix of BS and got an A.
Explain the information out loud to someone else. Treat the information as if you need to know it in order to do something practical. Straight information is difficult. If you feel like you can actually do something with it, you will retain it.
Are you making flash cards for key tems? That’s helpful, too.
Use mnemonics….make up funny memorable off-beat descriptions for the answer to the question.
eg….“Fluther”...is a place full of smart, goofy, loveable Jellies!
