Is it possible to manipulate your dreams or nightmares?

If you have a recurring dream, and you’d possibly like to change what happens during the dream, then has anyone ever had any experiences with trying to manipulate how a dream or nightmare ends or changes?

In general, I don’t dream. Every now and then I will have a brief vision when I am on the edge of sleep, but it never lasts long enough to develop coherence or a plot. However I can have some very vivid imaginings in deep meditation states – the difference is that I control the storyline when this happens. I ask the questions, and the imaginings provide the answers.
Dreams and nightmares are, as far as I can tell, visual representations of what is running through the back of your mind during the day. While you are awake, try to re-write the dream. Think up a storyline that begins the same, but choose a point at which it should change direction, and re-write the ending. The more you believe that this is the ‘actual’ path of the dream, the more likely it is to penetrate your mind to the depth required to manifest itself in dreams.
You want to do some research on what’s called “lucid dreaming”. A friend of mine told mr that he had some amount of success with this.
Other people writing on forums where these types of experiences are discused have also reported success utilizing this technique.
Evedently it requires a bit of practice so it’s not necessarily easy but possible.
I almost never remember my dreams so found it kind of pointless for myself personally.
Here is an OK peek into Beginner Oneiromancy or dream manipulation. I did this years ago and more often than not I would forget what I dreamt and having a pad of paper and a pencil at your bedside is a great tool for writing down or attempting to leave notes of what you are dreaming about. The details of your dreams can be fascinating.
Before I went to sleep,I told myself how I would handle that dream if it came up.
It did and I was able to manipulate the outcome.
Easier than you’d think
Have fun! :)
I have only been able to do this once. Whilst dreaming I suddenly became aware that I was dreaming, and therefore I could make anything happen that I wanted, so I did.
But there wasn’t anything specific I did to become a lucid dream and I’ve tried all the techniques that people have written about because I’d love to be able to do it again. It just happened randomly one time.
Deciding before I go to sleep what is going to happen in my dreams just doesn’t work for me. Trouble is I dream so infrequently, I might go years without any kind of dream at all.
I have never had any luck with this. If I am lucid enough to change the course of my dream, then I am not really dreaming – just daydreaming.
Yes. Lucid dreams are FUN! : D
I’ve often heard people say that they can, but I personally have never managed. I don’t even know how to TRY lol.
I’ve nver been able to MAKE it happen, but when it does I take full advantage of it. I’ve even had them continued for as many a three nights. I remember thinking one time, when a lucid dream I was having wasn’t going the way I wanted it to, “Hey! This is MY damned dream and I’ll make it do what the hell I want it to!” : D
Lol. XD Yeah, I’ve sometimes went back into the same dream, or I visit areas I’ve dreamt about before; that’s actually really common for me; but I have no control over any of it. Just kinda happens lol.
@Symbeline
Like I say, it doesn’t happen often for me, but when it does it’s sooo much fun! : D
I lucid dream quite often. Understanding how to control them can be tricky. You can’t change a dream about being tortured into a dream about flying, but you can change it into a dream about being able to morph into something else.
Lucid dreams are a nice way to be able to visit with relatives who have passed away.
