Should be the page numbers where the references were taken from of this publication.

I’m looking for the volume number and issue number. I think the page numbers would be 58–59.

Here is the doc….not sure how you go about finding volume number though??

Can you check some databases and see if you can get another citation for it? That one is confusing without more information. If it were page numbers, I would think it would say 58–59.

Psychosomatic Medicine is a magazine. Looking at this, I would think that 58 is the volume number.

Well, yes from the citation format it is clearly a journal but it is not clear what 58,59 are.

I went to the website of that journal and it does have a searchable archive. For some reason, I couldn’t find that paper, but another citation seems to indicate that 58 would be the volume for 1996. Here is the other citation in the proper format from that journal:

Original Articles:
KA Matthews, BB Gump, DR Block, and MT Allen
Does background stress heighten or dampen children’s cardiovascular responses to acute stress?
Psychosom Med September 1, 1997 59:488–496

…challenge: A laboratory model. Psychosom Med 52:42–58, 1990 Allen KM, Blascovich J, Tomaka J, et al: Presence of human friends and pet dogs as moderators of autonomic responses to stress in women. J Pers Soc Psychol 61:582–589, 1991 Benschop RJ, Brosschot JF, Godaert…
Abstract Full Text (PDF)

As you can see 59 is 1997, so 58 should be 1996, but the citation is incomplete; it should have pagination. I would try to find this in another database.

Hope this helps,

Allen, K. M. & Blascovich J. 1996. Anger and Hostility Among Married Couples: Pet Dogs as Moderators of Cardiovascular reactivity to Stress. (Paper presented at a conference of the American Psychosomatic Society), Psychosomatic Medicine, 58, 59.

It refers to page 59 of volume 58 of the journal “Psychosomatic Medicine.” If you look at the table of contents of volume 58, you’ll see that “Abstracts of Papers for 1996 Annual Meeting” appears on page 59 of issue 1.
