I am not a company or a freelance designer, but I do want to be able to show people my work over the internet. Would .info be the appropriate choice over .com?

Info is usually frowned upon. If you can get the ”.com” I would. If not maybe go with a ”.name” if it is a personal site.
you could also use .US.

I wouldnt recommend the .info either. I do not frequent any site that have the .info domain. There are some really good .com names available. Last week when i was trying to find a new domain , i found about 13 five-letter .com domains.
These are available – burnp.com, iamjz.com, etc.
Ok, my gut instinct was to go with .com, but I was afraid it would sound too corporate. I guess I was just paranoid. Thanks for confirming my initial thought!
The dot com is assumed. It is best to get it if you can actually find one that works for you and is available.
edit :: and dot “net” isn’t bad either.
@aloha: the “this guy” is actually my friend matt mcInerney
@mirza: sorry for not properly crediting “this guy” ... i like your friend’s work on pixelspread a LOT!
