What are some good acapella groups in the US or UK or Canada?

Asked by mattbrowne (31735points) April 13th, 2011

My favorite ones from Germany include Basta and the Wise Guys. Of course I know the King’s Singers.

Who else is good? I’d like to try some new CDs.

I have a soft spot for Rockapella since watching them back in the day on“Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?”

I don’t know if it’s representative of their best work, but once of my favorite songs of theirs is “I’ll hear your voice”.

Oberlin College has a 100+ year tradition of acapella groups. It’s where a lot of acapella singers who have recorded come from. I dont know if there are any albums that groups from Oberlin have produced, but… :)

There’s a group called Straight No Chaser that now performs professionally but started at Indiana University (the college amateur group still goes by the same name). They released a Christmas album this past year and it’s really good – they have a couple of others as well, but I haven’t heard them.

A lot of universities here have a capella groups. Tufts University’s group, The Beelzebubs, are especially good.
