@math_nerd It works.

It didn’t seem too laggy, which is usually what happens when you don’t dedicate enough RAM. I was the only person on there, though, which may have been a part of it.
One thing, though, is that I wasn’t able to destroy any blocks. I’m not sure if that was clientside or serverside, but it is a bit of a problem.

I play on thegrid.co.cc which is a really nice and active server with a friendly community and many nice server plugins. 10–20 people on at all times and very little lag. It’s whitelisted though so you would have to apply on their forums before it will let you connect.

I love the whitelisting, as there is hardly no griefing going on.

@dverhey :: I’m not sure about the destroying blocks thing. If there is a fix I could do I don’t really care enough to look for and apply it right now.

Mostly the server runs bittorrent and a LAMP stack. Maybe once I start playing minecraft again I will toss more resources at the server.

But if anyone has a good dedicated server running Ubuntu I can walk you through installing your own server.

@dverhey Yeah the server is still running, it’s vanilla minecraft 1.4_1 (latest update) and is maintained by Michael_Huntington

@Thammuz I dunno. Every time I go on there there’s never anyone on there.

Maybe we should have some sort of event for Flutherites to come play Minecraft.

I was on for the first time today. Surveyed the scene a little, and started a building on the hill overlooking the SS Fiddlebastard, next door to whoever’s got the square castle.

@Foolaholic, the demolished cathedral, square castle, and ship is all mine. If you keep walking past Axe’s funny farm, you’ll find my Skullcrusher Castle, and if you walk for about a day’s hike past that, you’ll find my giant desert castle and my monster arena. Feel free to chill for a minute at these places if you like.

@Foolaholic Oh man, I didn’t realize it was a whole walking tour! I’ll keep that in mind for when I start venturing outwards.

@Foolaholic And if instead you go the oposite way, and cross the lake where the SS fiddlebastard is, you will find most of my stuff, pollonet’s (one of my IRL friends), an obsidian temple by Wes (aka Michael_Huntington), Jay’s home and my deathmtch stadium which, i wanted to note, is now open for business.

BTW i’m also responsible for the small town (currently a work in progress) around the watchtower near the hill where you settled. If you want to use one of the houses as a starting point for your own home, don’t hesitate to do so.

@Everybody Am I the only one having problems with beds since the update and with the chunk next to the spawn point since the beginning of the server itself? You can see what chunk i mean by going over the hill where the nether portal is, there’s a very clear line where i tried to mine for sand and couldn’t because, for some reason, the server (i suppose, since that operation shouldn’t be client side, as far as i know) doesn’t update it. Does anyone know why it might be?

@dverhey I’ll try deleting my minecraft data and redownloading them, maybe that’ll fix it then.

No, i mean the giant tree which contains a home, near the spawn point.

Also, still having the same problems with that chunk even with deleting and redownloading everything, somethings’ definitively wrong server-side. I’d put some landmark near the place i mean but i can’t edit it… Just look for creeper holes that i haven’t filled in like i usually do, on the other side of the hill with the portal coming from spawn town. I haven’t filled them because it doesn’t let me.

Also, still having bed problems, almost no bed in my homes is safe. According to the wiki i respected all the criteria for bed safety, though.

Oh, the Tree of Plenty? That’s my current project. When it’s done, I plan for it to be a communal tree/cactus/sugar cane farm. And the bed in there is safe, so feel free to use it :D

Is it just me or there is a distinct lack of mobs lately? Both hostile and neutral.

@Thammuz yes i have noticed that i made a moster trap and there seems to be no monsters to trap :(

@Thammuz Yeah, apparently him and his brother, Profane1 or something found the server through a public IP list and got on it. He, @Foolaholic and Yoshi were on there last night when they were on.

He’s not a griever or asshole, but if we want to keep it secret Wes might want to whitelist it.

@dverhey Wes already whitelisted the the server after i put pressure on him both because of our chat yesterday about you wanting to install chest passwords and because i tried to contact that guy and he didn’t answer, except for saying “in bed” at some point.

So yeah, our server is now whitelisted, anyone who wants to join the server now has to go through Wes beforehand.

@Thammuz Do you know who’s been whitelisted? I know you have a non-fluther friend on there, as do I and I was just wondering if he could still access.

Either way, that’s probably for the best. Couldn’t stay hidden from the randoms forever.

Yoshi is whitelisted, and so is my firend, that mostly doesn’t come on the server but still…

I think the idea is anyone can get whitelisted as long as someone else guarantees for them.
