What podcasts would you recommend?

Asked by atomicmonkey (1665points) April 14th, 2011

I have a long commute to work, and podcasts are my savior. Current favorites are:
This American Life
The Moth
RadioLab
Smodcast, Hollywood Babble On etc
TOFOP
Do you have any that you love that you’d like to recommend?(and why)

I think TED has podcasts now, and I always plug my old sketch teacher’s storytelling podcast RISK!. Fluther has some salon-style podcasts as well, from back in the last year day.

What do you like? I have several science fiction story podcasts and skeptic podcasts I can recommend, but I don’t know if you’re into that.

“Science… Sort Of” is a great podcast. I also enjoy Nerdist, on occasion.

I really have grown fond of Q on CBC. The host, Jian Ghomeshi, is a great interviewer

Here’s the description from the CBC:
“Q is an energetic daily arts, culture and entertainment magazine that takes you on a smart and surprising ride, interviewing personalities and tackling the cultural issues that matter…

..From music icons like Van Morrison and Neil Young; smart conversations with everyone from Al Gore to Barbara Walters; CNN operas; to the branding of politicians… Q brings you big names, big ideas, and those paving the way on the cultural landscape.

For starters you can try iTunes U. This is iTunes university which has over 350,00 pieces of content. MIT, Stanford and Yale are just a few of the schools offering free courses on tons of topics.

You’re bound to find something of interest there. Bill Moyers is on there as well as content from one of my faves:

My History Can Beat up Your Politics.

Humorous title, lots of interesting food for thought. If you believe in the following quote, you’ll love this place.

“Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it”

Excellent suggestions, one and all. I shall be wrapping my ears around several of these directly.
@Rarebear Sci fi, yes – hook me up! Skeptics, not so much unless they are very hilarious.

Okay, for science fiction/fantasy/horror, you can google these
Escape Pod
Podcastle
Pseudopod
Starship Sofa
Drabblecast

Also, Scott Sigler has a number of books that he’s podcasted for free. I’m currently going through Ancestor and it’s quite good.

Nina Kimberly the Merciless and Space Casey are particularly funny.

From Our Own Correspondent from the BBC. Personal views from the BBC’s global network of foreign correspondents. Brilliant.
