I have 2 step kids and in a nut shell, they made me have no desire to have any kids. But I turned 30 and my husband is absolutely wonderful. And the step kids are teenagers now, and…..... I’m kind of sort of thinking….. And I told my husband and he just told me “just say when”. Its still down the road, but I just wanted to ask how do you really know when you are ready when you think about it or plan it. No accidents… When you plan it.

There’s never going to be an ‘opportune’ moment to have a child; as long as its created out of love, the right moment will be whenever it comes.
Now as for other life plans, what worked in my case (and my wife’s) was to get education finished, become gainfully employed, and to settle into a mortgage on a first home. We then got a couple of years of ‘practice’ by having a pet dog (from puppy to present), and tried (to a reasonable extent) to do a bit of traveling (alas, that is the part that was fleshed out the least).
Just make sure you and your partner’s life goals are intact and respected, and that you have a main and a backup plan for sustaining your lifestyle and direction in all aspects of work, career, etc., and that these ideals are mutually agreed to.
Lastly, stay out late, and get as much sleep as you can.
This from a happy husband and <yawns-exhausted!> father of two :)
(p.s. I’m 34 years old).
wow I really appreciate this response. Thank you. Actually my husband has a great career. I got laid off a few times. Economy in Cleveland is not great. We both are very educated I just wasn’t as lucky in the job department. I do keep my little monkey Maltese baby alive and well and she is 4 now and I still have not murdered my step kids. But you are right there is no plan to really have a child but some people really manage to really plan them LOL. The thought has been planted in my head “by me” and I’m really considering it. We will see;)
and I’m always sorry for the typing I always seem to get on fluther on my iPhone LOL
Yeah…it stinks trying to edit in the yellow text box on the iPhone…but hey, better than nothing…I’ve resorted to just posting another post and saying: “Edit:” followed by a list of the typos…
Cheers :)
I’m not sure, I’m still kind of a kid myself.
I know better than to reproduce!!
