What if a basketball player blocks the shot of an opposing player, and the blocked ball goes through the hoop?

Asked by Brian1946 (32538points) April 16th, 2011

Is the shot blocker credited with either a blocked shot or an assist, or does the shooter just get the basket with the shot blocker getting no statistical credit?

Isn’t the definition of a blocked shot one that doesn’t go in, hence, blocked?

@seazen_

That seems plausible to me.

Thanks for your research.

I guess that pretty much wraps up this question. ;-p

however, a further question could be, does the OG player get the stat for points? I’ve always wondered this for other sports. Like in hockey/baseball, if you get an OG, does that goal count towards your stats?
