Are those Hosting Plan Coupon Codes bogus?

The coupon codes you refer to are just leftover coupons from previous promotions run by Dreamhost (in this case). They will either work or they wont, but there isn’t any “strings”.

I was thinking about sites such as:

http://www.dreamhostcoupons.net/
...and
http://modder.org/dreamhost-promo-code/dreamhost-features-promo-codes.php

…which look kind of fishy to me. I mean, these deals are insane. And if they’re “legit” and valid, one would be stupid not to use it.

They’re completely legit. The way they work is that you can offer from $0 – $97 off depending on the type of plan and the length of time that you buy for. The max you can offer in many cases is around $50 off. In any case there is an upside for both parties, because the existing customer gets the remainder as a comission (so $97 – $50 = $47) and the new customer gets an awesome discount.
