That is, based on the difference you have noticed between years ago and now. Or just in general without comparing the past and the present.

Could you possibly provide more details, more specifics?. A lot of what an employer can and cannot compel his or her talk show host employer would either be a matter of the nations laws or what is spelled out in the employee talk show hosts contract. Otherwise I would say that and employer cannot compel it employee to do anything that violates the law or the terms of their contract and if it’s not in the contract then call in the lawyers because it’s not up to me. But if you are talking about something specific, some gray area, some moral or ethical thing then I, at least need more details, need clarification.
I would be influencing you if I do. I would rather not. It is about whatever you think…
They should not force straight news people to editorialize. And it should be illegal for them to force someone to lie or misrepresent the truth.
@flo Then the question is really to vague for me to answer it comfortably. Because anchors and talk show hosts are different animals. But at least, as @zenvelo any news department anywhere needs to understand the difference between news, analysis and editorializing. And any news department should understand the difference between the truth and a lie but other than that I guess I will have to let this and my first answer stand. If I don’t know what he question is I can’t answer it. Maybe other people understand what you are getting at but I don’t. Sorry.
@zenvelo Are these networks just going out of their way to hire the less qualified people or are they pressuring them to editorialze? Either way you are right of course. But I’m asking for a list of things (my question is not obvious)
@lillycoyote what should we all not do? There is an endless list of things, regardless of what we do for a living, So, in the same way, what should newscasters and talk show hosts not do? What is it that neither party should do? It is not just about what I’m thinking or getting at .
…I keep falling into the singular ”(what is it)”. What list of things have you noticed or have you read/heard/learned in school etc.about?
It’s the networks and stations pressuring them to slant left or right. I know of one network that wrote to its affiliates to have the local news anchors be more supportive of the network’s viewpoint.
@zenvelo isn’t that what the governments of North Korea etc do? How can the FCC not go after them?
@flo Yes, there is an endless list of things that we should all not do, and likewise and endless list of that what talk show hosts and newscasters shouldn’t do and an endless list of things that their employers shouldn’t compel them to do, and among those things would be, for example, biting the heads off of live baby lemurs, masturbating on the set, delivering the news, for newscasters or conducting interviews with their guests, for talk show hosts, entirely in pig latin and throwing human or animal feces at the camera operators, or anyone else for that matter.
Also, the professional standards for newscasters, who are journalists of a sort are entirely different than those for talk show hosts, who are basically entertainers, not journalists, and don’t even pretend to be.
I answered the question as best I could but it is too vague for me.
The question may not entirely be about what you’re getting at but I can’t answer it without more information, again, sorry.
@flo Well, N. Korea is a bit more emphatic that the news carry only the state’s view. We’re just talking networks here who have First Amendment rights. So why would the FCC “go after them.” ?
@zenvelo you are correct. But what is the solution?
