Any comments about this dream?

Asked by wundayatta (58741points) April 19th, 2011

A friend related this dream to me today, and it seemed a lot more interesting than most of the dreams we see here, so I thought I’d share it with you.

*******************************************
More bizzar-o dreams last night. Nothing too far out of the ordinary in the realm of oddity. I was young (huh, would we not all be in our dreams?) and was somehow involved in trying to obtain a job or a husband or something in Britain, circa 1930——and the entire thing revolved around a man (whom I think I loved) attempting to gain control of a small chain of hotels. I recall going on about the amazing architectural points of one of these fascinating buildings. I also recall having on the most uncomfortable shoes (beautiful, velvet, very 30s) yet, a size too small. It seemed somehow a toss up as to whether I would take a place as a chambermaid at this hotel or, oddly, to marry the man attempting to acquire it.

********************************************
So, let’s spell it out as usual. Dreams mean nothing. It is useless to interpret dreams and blah, blah, blah.

Ok. But what if this dream had a hidden meaning, what would that meaning be? Or, just purely as a story, do you have any comments about it?

I would say it is a dream about relationships, their pros and cons. On the one hand a relationship with someone you love opens up new worlds of possibility, as seen in a new country and even a new time. It extends your potential, instead of one home or one hotel you have the chance of a chain of hotels. On the other hand, the relationship may restrict your freedom to be yourself as symbolised in the shoes that are to tight for your feet. Your dream was about a relationship with someone powerful who could make you at once more powerful and less powerful, as the wife of a successful man and as a chambermaid subject to his will.

I wonder if your friend has been looking at Jack Vettriano paintings?

@downtide i love Jack’s paintings.

IMHO its about being submissive.

@blueiiznh Hmm. That actually makes a lot of sense.

Sometimes dreams are nothing, other times they are something you had on your mind. I don’t know if you had any aspirations to control real estate or any man in your life does so it is hard to say what aspect he had. The ”man” might not have even been a real man; it could be an opportunity, a career, something like that. The tight shoes could be something you had to overcome or it could have been because shoes you owned are too tight or hard to walk in. Usually if I remember any dreams at all many have to do with what was on my mind or subconsciously thought about over an extended period of time.

You could take up writing. Use your uncommon dreams as material =)
