What was the most recent sporting event you were excited by?

Asked by ucme (50047points) April 19th, 2011

You know, edge of the seat, nail biting stuff. Whether it involved your team or maybe you had a bet on the outcome. Or just a thrilling encounter that had you hooked.

Well, there was a super regional fencing tournament in Houston a couple of weekends ago. Any time your kids or their team mates are competing in a major event it is an edge of seat nail biter.

Several members of our club (my son included) brought home medals.

@YoBob Yeah, been there done that. My daughter has a vast collection of tennis trophies/medals. Proud as punch & slightly too noisy on the sidelines I was.

I was going to say Butler vs. Wisconsin (my alma mater) during the NCAA basketball tournament this past March, but Butler showed they were going to roll over Wisconsin within the first 30 seconds of the game, so I’ll say UK v USA in the World Cup last year (though neither team played all that well, actually).

@lucillelucillelucille Is there video and is it “X”?

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@Tropical_Willie Not “X”, but I did dot his “I” LOL

Super Bowl XLV where my beloved Packers destroyed any lingering thoughts the Steelers had of “dynasty”.

@aprilsimnel That’ll be against England! Oh & thanks, I was trying to forget about this howler :¬(

The San Francisco Giants winning the World Series. It was a nail biter from the beginning of August through November 1. As we say around here, “Torture”.

It was the most exciting, excruciating finish since January 1982 when Joe Montana led the Forty Niners to their first Super Bowl win.

@ucme – Oops. Yes, England.

Hooboy. The pub I watched the match in got as quiet as a church at that point, full as it was with English folk. There was an guy who hooted and hollered with glee, though, from the minute he realized what had happened until the end. I think he was from Boston.

@aprilsimnel It was an awful gaffe, still…. never mind eh.

This years Super Bowl :) Not the outcome I wanted, but I was so excited. And I like the Packers too so I really wasn’t disappointed and it was a great game.

Sat in the 3rd row for the Chicago Bulls playoffs home opener. They trailed by 10 points the entire game and Derek Rose almost single-handedly won the game with less than 3 minutes left. Wildly insane game!

The Bulls/Pacers game was good last night. Also liked the Thunder/Nuggets game Sunday.

I really enjoyed watching ‘Da Bears fall apart in the NFC Championship game as well. That was like Super Bowl XLV Part 1 for me.

would have enjoyed it more if it had been dallas taking the ass beating instead

cockswain's avatar

@Blondesjon But let’s reflect for a moment: we got Wade Phillips fired, got Childress fired, beat the Vikings twice, the Bears couldn’t stop us from our destiny in two critical games, and we won the Superbowl against the hated Steelers. If there is a lockout this season, this is the only circumstance in which I’ll find it acceptable.

I’ve never been excited by a sporting event.

@Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard Not even the Olympics? Swimming is intense. So is gymnastics. OOH ONLY ONE MORE YEAR

Man United vs Man City, FA cup semi final, last Saturday. City won 1–0 }

Cheers peeps, good stuff. I’ve always loved my sport, whether participating or just spectating, what a rush. Of course when you get a team in your blood from a very young age, wow that’s so intense…I feel like weeping now!

ucme's avatar

@downtide Yeah, sore losers as usual. Rio Ferdinand fighting with Balotelli at the end was truly hilarious. Apparently the United dressing room wall was damaged, someone had a fit of pique is my guess.

KateTheGreat's avatar

I only get excited about the World Cup whenever it comes around. I’m kind of excited for the 2014 Winter Olympics because it is being held where I grew up!

@deni, nope. Sports just ain’t my thing.
