Are these good earbuds?

Part of having a good bass sound is feeling it as much as hearing it. You can look at the headphone’s “frequency response” to get an idea of how much bass you’ll hear and feel. That particular pair will play sounds in the 16Hz – 22kHz range. Bass frequency is the lower number while treble is the higher number. The lower the number on the left, the more bass you’ll hear and feel.

I’d say that pair is more focused on a brighter sound than reproducing good bass. Look for something with a lower bass frequency response.

I really like these earbuds for my ipod Etymotic ER 6i Isolators . I got a pair when they first came out and provide great sound clarity, enhanced bass, and excellent noise cancellation. I use them when I fly and have no problems listening to my ipod without cranking up the volume. Worth the investment.

Judging quality for in-ear phones can be highly subjective to the user; there are many, many reviews out or them, as well as a very wide range of prices.

The first thing to consider is, what genre of music will you be listening to primarily? This can have a particular influence on make and model…

mostly bay area rap. Music with beats that have a lot of bass

I’ve tried a few pairs of in-ear headphones (ER6i, E500, E2c) , and one site that always helps me is headphone.com. They provide the frequency response diagram, and what you will want is an increase in the lower end versus the higher end. If you really want to feel the bass, the ER6i’s referenced to above have enhanced bass response designed to really make you “feel” the bass of the rap music. They are much more than the price listed on the website you reference, but they also will likely please you more.

I might be a little skeptical of the website, as the quality of the headphone seems a little shoddy. Maybe ask for the return policy and give them a shot if you can easily return them if you don’t like them. Good luck shopping!

I have two pairs of V-Moda Vibes/Vibe Duos (the duos for the iPhone), which have a good amount of bass, and crisp but not overbearing highs and mids…they’re really well constructed (gunmetal grey, alloy, very sturdy), and can be found at the Apple Store, and recently, at Costco! Worth the money ($69 for the Vibes), but if you want to go a step up, there are several competing choices out there for DJs and audiophiles who are into urban/hip-hop styles;

You may want to look into Jays q-Jayz , and Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 EBs as good alternatives to the Etymotics and Shures…

Lastly a really good site for reviews: Head-Fi.org. Some crazy stories in there where audiophiles spend a sh&*load of cash on portable systems…good entertainment for audio junkies like myself…

I second sndfreQ’s recommendation of the vibes. I adore mine & have bought my boyfriend a pair for his graduation present. The iPhone adapted ones have the microphone for convenience when conversing.

The vibes are great. I bought them following reading a simillar discussion in a question like this from a few weeks ago. great integration with the iphone, etc. very comfortable, blah blah, good value for the money. I would say they are the top choice for shure (hah).

CameraObscura – no human can hear or feel freqs as low as 16hz. These are going to be fine for bass response. I’d worry if it was 100hz or something, but you shouldn’t even really care too much about anything below 40hz on something like earphones.

I heard that the vibe’s speaker will go out after a few months. Is this common?

@atr408: I’ve had my Vibe Duos since July, and drive them reasonably loud most every day; they have no apparent degredation in the sound quality or drivers…haven’t had the regular Vibes that long (2 mos.) so I can’t give a definitive answer, except to say that I’m pretty sure they’re the same drivers as in the Vibe Duos.

They do carry a 1-year warranty, and their cust. support has been helpful so far IMO (they did a warranty repair, but on the connector, not the drivers). Very courteous and prompt.
