Why do some people leave their Christmas tree up all year long?

Asked by john65pennington (29273points) April 20th, 2011

In my city each year, some people leave their artifical Christmas trees up year ‘round. Are they hoping Santa Claus will see their tree in July and leave them an extra Christmas present? Also, having blue icesicles hanging off a roof in mid-90s temperature is ridiculous.Question: why do people leave their Christmas tree and decorations up all year? Am I missing something?

I’m not sure…Are our lives so busy that we just never get around to stuff like that? I still have a string of lights up around my entertainment center, but at least no one can see them from outside (and I don’t plug them in).

Mild insanity…...yule be sorry!

Maybe they just think it’s pretty.

Two words: Laziness!

That’s certainly the only explanation I have for my actions, lol! @erichw1504

I would guess laziness.
I think sometimes, especially the elderly, find it to be difficult to put them up and take them down – but may still enjoy them. So leaving them up but unlit may be easier than taking everything down.

I have a neighbor that has every decoration for every holiday up. Even Valentine’s day. They have scarecrows and Xmas lights and heart garland up all at once. True story. lol.

It’s cheaper than buying curtains for the window? Or laziness, I not sure which is right.

I have never seen that; however, I will admit mine has stayed up until the end of January a couple of times. Those times for me were because of being busy, lazy or a combination of both.

Truthfully, @ucme , I pine fir my decorations once I’ve taken them down. People should branch out and decorate fir other holidays. There are at least tree, er three, other holidays that people can decorate fir.

@john65pennington We have a joke in our family that we’d like a flame thrower, so we can go around town and burn the wreaths still left up in June…yes, JUNE!

What the heck?! You can’t be so lazy as to put up a wreath on your front door or front window, see it rotting there everyday and not just go out on garbage day, take it down & chuck it???? Can you?!

Trees: I’ve seen a few people leave them up through Valentine’s and decorate them with hearts…beyond that, I just don’t understand.

Well, in Russia, we used to do that. A lot of us decorated them throughout the seasons for certain celebrations.

But if you’re leaving a Christmas tree out with the same Christmas ornaments all year long, then you are just plain lazy. I suppose it’s convenient for some people.

I’ve never seen anyone do that here. Most people in the UK consider it bad luck to leave the Christmas decorations up past January 6th. I do see people leave lights on outdoor trees longer.

@lucillelucillelucille You too are, of course, correct ;¬}

As a pom, I agree with @downtide. My tree has to be down by Jan 6th. Not that I’m really superstitious but I wouldn’t leave my tree up.

I’m the opposite of those above. Ukrainian Xmas isn’t celebrated until January 7th, so I don’t usually take my tree down until after that. Usually the next day.

Confession: our Christmas tree is still up (with ornaments and lights, the whole deal.) It is an artificial tree that came equipped with lights… and it was a nightmare to put up. How many college students does it take to assemble a Christmas tree? Three: one to reread the directions a thousand times, one to connect and disconnect the plugs, and one (yours truly) to save the day. Anyway, after that debacle nobody wanted to take it down because that would mean dealing with it again next year.

Also, we’re lazy.

lol and honest @muppetish.

I can definitely understand the icicle lights all around the gutters since that involves ladders and all. And as long as they’re not keeping them lit, I don’t really see a problem.

But the entire tree plus decorations does get a little ridiculous, especially if it’s after “Christmas in July”

:)
