Are you protective of your friends?

Asked by Jude (32204points) April 20th, 2011

I have a friend who has been dealing with a lot and it hurts me because I care for them. I am really protective and want to do what I can to protect them (some more). It sucks that I can’t help. :(

Yes, but sometimes the best thing you can do for a friend is to NOT “protect” them.

Very much so, emotionally but I agree with @CaptainHarley writes. Over time I’ve learned it’s mostly good to not get involved in anything unless asked. I’ve had the same core group of friends long enough to where they are my chosen family.

Very much so.
I have had some interesting times because of it.

I have very few close friends. I am very protective of those few.

I try to be, but sometimes people have to learn how to deal with things on their own.

Absolutely! I’m pretty protective of my closest friends. Here’s looking at you, @ddude1116

There is a difference between helping someone and protecting them. The last time I can recall of protecting someone is this:

In our lunchroom at work, a friend started verbally attacking a co-worker for her religious beliefs. The woman being attacked was utterly flabbergasted, noticeable by her silence and flushed complexion. I stood up and basically told the friend to back off and why. While it didn’t end the friendship, it did put it on a different level. It was disappointing that she never apologized to the other co-worker.

So, do I help friends? Yes. Will I protect them? Only if I feel that they are in the right.
