Is there any danger with sleep walking and talking?
I am a sleep walker and talker and have been from a very young age. (About 4 and a half years old.) I have been told that if I get woken up while I’m sleep walking, I can be scared to death, literally. I have heard that I go into some sort of shock, not realising where I am or who I am. Is this true? Is there any other dangers?
Please Help Me.

I’m pretty sure that’s an urban myth. I used to sleep walk, and have known many others who do the same. No one’s ever come to harm that I know of. (The stories always involve someone who heard about someone…) Mostly it would be like anyone being woken suddenly – disoriented and confused.

Only if you run into something or fall down a flight of stairs.
I have actually feel down a flight of stairs, as I love in a 2 storey house. I woke up mid way through the fall and all i remember was it felt like flying just extremly painful. No broken bones in the end (:
Well, you could fall down and hurt yourself? But yeah the stories have always been told, by someone who heard from someone, who heard from someone else… hahaah! Also… you could take a knife and cut yourself? UH OH. But wait, I did hear one where a guy was got onto a roof and someone woke him up and he fell off?
You should have whoever lives with you wake you up the next time you sleep walk. There are stories of people sleep walking down streets and half a mile to their grandmother’s house and lying on top of her car. People do really creepy things when sleep walking, it spooks me thinking about it. Who do you live with that cares to help you with your problem?

Would you ask them to wake you up next time you’re walking around in your sleep?
To find out first hand if you ’ I go into some sort of shock, not realising where I am or who I am.’ Then if it works out okay you can stop being scared about it, if you do go into shock you’ll recover and there’s no mystery about the ‘will I or won’t I?’ :)
That could be a good idea if there wasnt any chance of my getting hurt.
It could be dangerous to others if you are having night terrors, but only to yourself if you are merely sleep walking. maybe lock your door at night, I sleep walk on occasion too.
I’ve actually eaten in my sleep now that I think of it. if you are a sleep eater, there is a danger of choking, or eating something that isn’t food. luckily I was eating spaghetti, and some friends were there and they woke me up.
@takeachance: First off, you’ve already been woken up once by outside stimuli while sleepwalking and found yourself in an extremely shocking and scary situation – midway thru tumbling down a flight of stairs. If that doesn’t cause you to go into shock and die, nothing will. And sleepwalkers are generally no less coordinated than their waking selves.
I sleepwalked for years and my mother used to wake me up midway all the time. Or my sister would, or my brother. It’s fine.
good to know and yeah i didnt think of it that way, my mother or father usually just says to me that they will fix what ever im doind and its time for bed, so I stumble my way through my room, hop in my bed and sleep for hours.
I’m a sleep walker/talker as well, and I find that I usually wake myself up, at least a little, on my own. Like enough to realize “Wait a second, I’m not supposed to be feeding my neighbors cats.” So I can’t imagine it’s that dangerous to be awakened.
A friend told me not to talk to some one who is doing it because it can cause brain damage but, I never knew if it was true or not.
Being woken up while sleepwalking won’t harm you but falling down stairs or getting outside and trying to cross the street might. My sister used to sleepwalk all the time, she would get up in the middle of the night, get dressed ready for school and get her breakfast, and would sit in the dark watching TV (which at the time was showing just static, because this was before we had 24 hour multi-channel TV). Mum and dad used to wake her up often, and take her back to bed.
