What do you do if you drop a samsung gravity phone in water?

Asked by trailsillustrated (16804points) April 23rd, 2011

So I did drop it in water. I took it apart and I am house sitting for a friend, I looked through all his cupboards and no rice. I can’t boot the phone up. Any ideas I really can’t afford a new phone right now. Thanks

How long has it been since you took it apart? It can take between 24–48 hours for the phone to dry completely, so wait until then before you try to turn it back on. Turning it on while it’s still wet is a very bad thing to do, as it will fry the circuits.

I was going to suggest putting it in a bag of rice, but I see that’s not an option.
You could try taking the phone apart and setting it in a warm dry place, perhaps near a sunny window. Also, try to absorb as much of the water possible with a towel. I don’t suggest putting the phone back together or turning it on until you are sure it’s completely dry.

Open it up and blow dry it with a hot blow drier.

As said if you turn it on it will shot circuit itself, even if you try to turn it on and nothing seems to happen…I went swimming in a lake with my samsung camera in my pocket for a good 2 mins before I realised and…it still worked after.

Take off all the covers, the battery etc and put it somewhere hot, direct sunlight works but it also scorches the inside parts, best an airing cupboard if you have one.

See if you have any of those silicone packs from when you buy shoes about, you might have some in a shoe box who knows put it with them and leave in a hot dry place.

My camera did work after but it eventually broke sent it for repair and samsung fixed it, was some seized cogs in the zoom no other damage so maybe you’ll be ok?!

I did find a burlap bag of a thing called gasless chili would that work like rice?

take the pieces and put them on the dashboard of your car, then run the defroster. Let it sit for about 15 minutes.

You watch gravity do it’s job. Then you panic. Then you fish it out. Then you pop the back off, take the battery out and let it dry out for a couple days.

Blowdryer worked for me!

I used to be in the Navy and had many experiences when electronics got wet or submerged. The first thing you do is turn if off immediately! If possible, remove the case and put the instrument in the sun or under a lamp. Placing a fan so that it blow across the unit also helps. I leave it like that for about a day, longer if it is a big thing like a television (don’t ask how it happened) wait a couple of days, longer if you have time. Chance are it will work fine.

What you don’t want to do is try to operate it while it is still wet..This even works for watches that appeared to fail.

p.s. if it fell in saltwater rinse it thoughly with clean fresh water, then dry it out.
