Could someone possibly help me or tell me if it is even possible to find a response to a comment of mine on a specific subject in the body of a thread?

Asked by lillycoyote (24875points) April 24th, 2011

The problem is that what I am looking for was a side conversation as I remember, not necessarily an answer to the question.

The details: I have an old wind up Victrola record player; it plays 78 rpms. It belonged to my grandmother and on some question somebody gave me a link to a company that repairs and refurbishes these old machines.

I’m looking for the specific response rather than general info on where I can get the Victrola repaired; I can google that myself. The flutherite who responded gave me links to a company that he had done business a with on a couple of occasions and said they did very good work and that he wouldn’t do business with anyone else for this sort of thing.

If I’m going to go to the trouble and expense of shipping the thing to someone and having the work done I would prefer to have it done by someone who has been recommended and “vouched for.”

Can this be done? Is it possible to find something that specific in the body of a thread? I’m not really a good searcher of fluther.

I’m not having any luck finding the response in question. Do you remember which jelly posted the answer? If so, you can put ”@username” into the search bar along with any keywords in the response you can remember. For example, ”@lillycoyote Victrola” gets you this result.

Looks like this is the thread you’re looking for.

@thorninmud That’s the one!!!!!! Awesome, how did you find it? And so fast!!!! Did you do a site search with google, use fluther’s search engine? Search syntax please, pretty please? Thank you!

I also think, now that I remember, that we took the conversation to PMs so as not to clutter up the thread with our own conversation. So some of what I remember was from the PMs.

@lillycoyote It is still better to search google. Just use _site:fluther.com

Since you replied you can add your username into the mix. A search for site:fluther.com lillycoyote Victrola will take you right there.

And thanks @SavoirFaire It shows up on your search too, but I’m a very bad skimmer and didn’t see it. I need special attention on these kind things, like @thorninmud putting it right there and even then, I skimmed over it and was about say that wasn’t the one.
