What's the longest period of time you've gone without bathing?

Asked by Joker94 (8180points) April 25th, 2011

I literally have no real reasons for asking this outside of shits and/or giggles.

I bathe or shower at least once a day. Even when camping I would bathe in a river or lake.
You can’t ever stop me! XD

My electricity was off one morning awhile back so I went 40 some hours without. Gross. I washed up with bottled water but it ain’t the same as a shower.

A week. I’ve never felt so dirty and eew in my life. I couldn’t have a bath after surgery. Thank goodness it wasn’t hot weather then or…well. Let’s leave it at that.

yankeetooter's avatar

Yeah…at least every 24 hours. Once summer hits, with that horrible Baltimore humidity, a couple times a day…

I went more than a week following a surgical procedure one time. Now, I did take care of the more bacterial-harboring areas with a washcloth, but I had to wait 10 days before I could get in a shower or tub. Fortunately, I lay so still for the majority of that time, I really never felt horribly ‘dirty,” other than my craving to wash my hair.

Ah was raised on jus one bath a week, that done me good.

Does 9 months In utero count? :)
Otherwise maybe a skipped day when I had a job where I worked from home. It amazed me how working from home can change your showering habits.

everephebe's avatar

5 days. I start feeling dirty after about 12 hours or less out of the shower.

I think I had a couple bouts of the flu where I was just to sick to get out of bed let alone shower or take a bath. Other than that I will bathe in a puddle like a sparrow if I have to!

Probably a week to ten days after appendicitis, I was young and the shower scared me..Hell, I was scared to do anything that week, appendicitis blew…

Otherwise, three days while I was staying with my sister in her apartment after it was all emptied out. There was still water and everything, and I did rinse off, but it was an experiment that I hope to not do again for a while..

4 days due to a stupid long bus ride from Oklahoma to Oregon. Worst feeling EVER!

incendiary_dan's avatar

I dunno, what year is it?

Lightlyseared's avatar

About 2 weeks, while on climbing trip. On the bright side the merino wool base layer I’d had on for the entire time didn’t smell that bad at all.

naivete's avatar

A day. I slept for close to 24 hours once and obviously skipped a shower.

Ten (or so) days on a backpacking/hunting trip in the Colorado Rockies.

captainsmooth's avatar

I skip showering when I am not working on the weekends, or if I am camping. Longest is probably 4 or 5 days.

erichw1504's avatar

Probably 3 or 4 days. When? In college of course!

4 days. I was sick with pneumonia and didn’t have the energy to lift myself up out of bed.

@ragingloli . . . well, you are european

I had nothing but sponge baths (not a fucking bath at all) for nearly six months when I was 15 going on 16 and lying in traction.

The first real “bath” I got was a therapeutic whirlpool they lowered me into when the pins came out and I could actually be removed from my bed. It felt so good it hurt.

i know. the phrase is a bit of a contradiction, but i can’t think of any other way to describe it.

I’ve also done a few 3 day camping weekends without bathing. Those are some epic fucking showers when you finally take them too.

incendiary_dan's avatar

@noelleptc You know, that’s probably really bad for your skin to shower quite that much.

In all seriousness, probably a couple weeks. I usually only shower twice a week or so, because that’s all I require. More in the summer when I’m sweatin my ass off working outside, obviously. Then it’s probably every other day.

@noelleptc Keep eating plenty of oils, then! :)

During a week at scout camp, though we swam in a river one day.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

Probably 2 weeks or so when I had postartum depression.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

4 days when I was sick with the flu.

tedibear's avatar

To the best of my recollection, two days. Went from Friday morning to Sunday afternoon. By Sunday my hair felt kind of disgusting, but I wasn’t particularly smelly. I asked my husband and I promise that he would have been honest in that case!

stardust's avatar

A week or so following surgery. Gross

tranquilsea's avatar

A week while I was camping in the back, back, back country. The most I could do was a PTA.

SavoirFaire's avatar

One week at summer camp. The showers were so gross, I think I would have gotten dirtier in them. Besides, I was 12.

takeachance's avatar

I bath/shower twice a day but my sister in the school holidays goes the whole 2–6 weeks without even touching water. Kinda gross…

ilvorangeiceblocks's avatar

well i just came back from a camp. it’s tuesday today and the last time i showered was on saturday. that’s the longest period of time for me.

(guilty justification: the lines were ever so long. more waiting time than showering time)

laineybug's avatar

Uhm… probably three days.

ddude1116's avatar

I haven’t bathed since…. The Incident! cue thunder and dramatic music

Joker94's avatar

@ddude1116 You bastard! That was my gag!

ddude1116's avatar

Totally worth it…

mrrich724's avatar

4 days. My g/f was out of town and I didn’t have sh** to do but drink and play video games. I was pre-employed (didn’t start work yet), and my friend is such a chronic smoker he stunk worse than I could have.

deni's avatar

8 days. Blar. My skin actually looks great when I don’t shower for a while, it’s just my hair that makes me feel gross.

jonsblond's avatar

I didn’t bathe until the third day after my cesarean with my first child. I’ll never forget that shower. I thought my guts were going to fall out.

jonsblond's avatar

@deni It’s such a strange feeling, but after reading my husband’s story, I don’t feel so bad. It seems so strange how they have you up and walking so soon after surgery. I know it’s good for you, but your body tells you differently at first.
