How did the US get Osama bin Ladens DNA?

Asked by SquirrelEStuff (10012points) May 2nd, 2011

I am not making this into a “did we really catch him or not” argument.
Osama bin Laden was confirmed dead. They confirmed it was him by matching his DNA.
How or where did we get his DNA in the first place to compare it to?

Remember that the bin La-den’s family are great friends with the Bush’s. They probably could just swab George Junior’s lips and get a sample of bin Laden ass sweat.

I don’t think that it would be that difficult to have a sample of his DNA, looking back at his history, he is the world’s number one fugitive, so the US Militart probably kept a sample with them before they went to hunt him down.

I see the beginnings of a great circular argument:

9/11 Truther: bin Laden was trained by the CIA. This is great evidence that the U.S. was complicit in 9/11.

Me: bin Laden was solely responsible for 9/11. The U.S. just killed him in Pakistan and have verified it with DNA.

Truther: Well, fine—how did they get his DNA?

Me: Well, he was trained by the CIA. Don’t you think they’d have his DNA on file?

yeah, that’s not actually my argument. but it’s funny.

Lol. That is funny.

Could they test him before hand? Make sure his sample matched the one on file?

What about after. I thought DNA tests took a while. More than a day. How could they have tested it so quickly?

It looks like the story has changed. No confirmation yet based on DNA, only facial imaging.

Yeah Osama’s sister died here in Boston…I’m pretty sure they usea DNA from her brain.

They’ve covered the details here today, because it was tested here in Boston by Mass. General Hospital. Bin Laden’s sister died there of brain cancer. THey kept samples of her DNA. siblings from the same parents will have 50% matching DNA. Within that much of the markers are common to lots of us, but there are a few that are extremely rare. The match on those markers is definitive. It yielded a 99.9% certainty that the DNA was from Usama bin Laden. Couple that with his looks and location, and the info on the hard drives removed from computers in the compound.

They got him. We can be certain beyond any reasonable doubt.

My understanding is that Bin Laden is the only child by his mother, but that he has almost 50 half siblings by his father. His father is no longer living, but his mother is, and she has been asked in the past for a DNA sample. I haven’t read any reports that she has provided it, but several reports have stated that they have enough samples from the half siblings to confirm whether it is indeed Bin Laden or not. The word on the internet is that initial DNA tests are proving it to be true, along with digital facial structure recognition. There was also one report of a wife confirming that it was his body, but I can’t recall the source.
