Where can I get pants zippers fixed?

Asked by awomanscorned (11261points) May 3rd, 2011 from iPhone

I am not handy with needle, thread, or zippers in general so don’t even suggest that.

Twice now, with two different pairs of nice jeans, I have had them halfway on, taken a step, and pulled the little zipper apart. Now I can only where them with long shirts to hide the busted zipper. (classy) can I just take it to a tailor? Follow up, how does one find a tailor?

Ask the dry cleaners. Often they have a seamstress or someone like that who they use to alter and repair clothes.

I always ask my grandma to do that kind of stuff for me, lol.

I think most drycleaners offer seamstress/tailoring services….or at least the ones around here do. Bust out the phonebook?....

A bridal shop or a tux rental place might also have someone doing alterations in house.

Department stores generally do as well. At least the one I work at does.

I’ve had the most success with going to an independent (rather than a chain) cleaners owned by Asians.

They do really precise excellent work with generally far more reasonable rates. Not dirt cheap. Just more reasonable. Look for cleaners located in the Chinatown section of most major cities.

Chinatown, as well as great restaurants, usually also has one of more markets with much fresher better fruits, veggies, fish also at better prices and quality as typical supermarkets.

Wherever I’ve lived, I’ve always found wonderful shops of all types in the Asian neighborhoods. Friendly, quality, reasonable prices. Can’t be beat.

@Buttonstc Not all of us live in towns where there are Asian sections or towns with even more than a few stoplights in town.

@klutzaroo

I’m aware of that but since I had no idea where anyone lives, I just figured the info may be helpful for ANYONE reading this, not just the OP.

I currently live in a one stoplight town but found no difficulty finding at least several Asian grocery stores within half hour’s drive with a little googling.

And if I were willing to travel an extra 15 mins. would have access to a plethora of choices of all types.

…just tryin’ to share a little helpful life experience info…not making assumptions of who lives where.

@Buttonstc Yet some of us aren’t even that lucky. @noelleptc doesn’t know if there’s anything in her state and I doubt that much of anyone within an hour’s drive even knows what kind of things are to be found at an Asian market. I have to drive half an hour to get to a WalMart. While some of us have access to things, people here so often forget that there are a lot of others who have access to almost nothing in their areas.

You could also ask the proprietors of your local fabric shop. Most of the people that work there, actually sew and might be able to help you directly, or at least they can send you to a good seamstress or tailor.

Now with all that talk about Chinatown, I’m hungry again!

Most dry cleaners have people on staff who can fix or replace zippers and do other types of mending of clothes.
