Best way to display the Art Deco (bed) lamp. (details inside)

Asked by Jude (32204points) May 6th, 2011

I am not going to use it for my bed.

Here it is.

It works (has a cord). I was thinking about resting it on a shelf (chocolate brown wooden shelf) that would be hanging on the wall.

Here is the one shelf that I already have. Another shelf (a bit smaller, yet, same shelf) is going to go below this one. I wanted to rest the lamp on it, and have it plugged it.

Thoughts? Ideas?

Did it used to have a stand or is it supposed to sit down directly on a desk? It’s really pretty, but I think it may need to have some sort of stand or mount to rest it on, so when it’s turned on, it won’t get the surface of the table or shelf that you put it on too hot.

The mounting bracket has two holes on the back to hang from a headboard.

I think it would look more dramatic, if instead of just setting it on the shelf, that you use the mounting bracket holes to attach it to the wall, directly (but not too high) above the shelf. If you are going directly into drywall, and not a stud, you may need to use drywall anchors (that are rated for the weight of your object) to make sure it hangs there securely. Then you could pick another item that you want to “highlight” under it, that will sit on the shelf.

I think it would get your shelf too hot, if you set it directly on there and turned it on.

My first thought was definitely to mount it right above a shelf. So I think you’re on the right track. I agree with @Kardamom, though, that it may get too warm to actually sit on the shelf.

Hang it from the headboard, then hang from the lamp! XD

@lucillelucillelucille I had to read your post 3 times to get it. Naughty girl ;-)

@Kardamom – XD Try that at home!

You could wall mount it just about anywhere, and get a chrome cord cover to hide the cord coming from the lamp and down the wall.

The lamp is beautiful. I quite like the idea of simply resting it on a shelf. However, you won’t be able to hang from it as @lucillelucillelucille suggests. :\
