How do you get a book published?

Asked by nikipedia (28095points) April 23rd, 2008

I have a friend whose life is so ridiculous it needs to be turned into a book. (I’ll give you the blog link if you ask nicely and you can tell me if you agree or not.) How do you go about getting a publisher and a big fat advance?

Hp, your site looks great. I posted the link to the writers page for you. The one you posted was the site’s main page.

Here’s a book too: Writer’s Market—I have the 87th annual edition. They must be doing something right!

Before I respond, can you explain a bit more what you mean by “published”? If all you want is to have your words put into a book and have it printed, that’s one thing, but going throught the process of either seeking publication via traditional publisher or self-publishing (which is not the same as vanity or subsidy publishing) is another. I’ll be glad to help, but need to know what scenario I’m looking at first.
