Looking for a book about a princess that's abducted to faerie land by a prince?

I read this in 2000 or near then. This girl is living in a kingdom with her father and he decides to marry some toad-like woman. The prince sees her in a meadow or something playing with kids and decides to abduct her. She gets taken away to his faerie kingdom and when she eventually convinces him to let her go back no one recognizes her because she looks “wild.”

At some point the prince competes in a tournament where the evil, ugly stepmother wants to be the queen of beauty and when he wins he causes trouble for the princess by telling everyone that she is more beautiful than her ugly stepmother.

Obviously I have a lot of details, but none of these have lead me to this book.
