Frankly, no. If you want an iPod I would highly suggest getting a used one offline. And what on earth do you need 6 gb for? Even if that thing plays video (I can’t remember if the new nano’s do) its got that tiny little screen. How many tens of thousands of songs do you need to put on it?
I got my last two iPods off ebay. A 30 gb regular iPod (I forget which generation, but it was like 2 years old when I bought it)... for like $75. My nano, a 2nd gen that I got several years ago with 2 gb… was about $30.
Your post says it is “from iPhone” An iPhone has all the functions of an iPod. Why carry around another gadget?
@yoyoo29 I see. They do make a cool watch. Whether that is worthwhile I think is entirely up to you and your budget.
You might also like Phosphor E-ink watches. They are in the same price range (but they do not play music).
If you have the money to blow on gadgets and you really want a music-playing watch then it would be worthwhile, but I prefer something a bit more practical and economical.
I had an armband for my iPod Touch that I could mount on my wrist if I didn’t mind the headphone cord getting tangled everywhere (I usually kept it on my bicep with the cord tied up) and found it better to have something with more storage and more features for not much more money. Of course that also meant wearing a regular wristwatch for actually telling time since it was either that, lift up my shirt sleeve whenever I wanted to see the time, or leave my iPod out where it could get smashed. Machine shops are not great places for fragile equipment.
“Worth it” is a highly subjective question.
Would it be worth it to me ? Definitely not. My iPhone tells me the time more accurately and conveniently than any watch I ever had.
And I have all the music I need with me at all times since my phone is always with me. Whatever it costs for the cute little iPod, I would invest in an auxiliary portable battery/charger so my phone doesn’t run out of juice.
But I’ve seen some of the YouTube vids of people who turned them into cute watches and I can understand someone who wants to look cool and impress their friends.
But that’s not enough for me to waste money on duplicate functionality and my friends like me just fine the way I am. That’s kind of one of the characteristics of a true friend (as opposed to acquaintances whose impressions of me are meaningless).
But if I had a bunch of extra money to throw around, who knows ? But I don’t :(
You have to make your own decision on whether it’s worth it to you. The plain fact is that the iPhone tells you the time and plays your music. So it would basically be for show.
But I guess it beats paying hundreds of dollars for fashion label trendy shirts or a handbag :)
Everybody’s different.

Holy shit, @jerv has something Apple.
In short, I’d say no. The current gen nano seems like an “experiment” on Apple’s part and I wouldn’t be surprised if it goes the way of the 3rd gen “fatboy” nano and they go to something different next time around.
That means less cases, accessories, and watchbands being developed/produced in the next few years.
It’s also a $150+ watch you can’t take out in the rain or to the beach, which is something else to think about.
@dverhey Great point about the rain and the beach. When I was thinking durability, I was worried merely about having it scratched by metal shavings, melted by sparks, or snagged on any number of things.
I don’t have that iPod Touch any more; it broke right after the warranty ran out so I am back to using my five-year-old Sansa that still works for much of my music and my Droid X for everything else like games. In fact, much of my vitriol against iOS and iTunes is based on the time I owned that thing.
@jerv Please tell me you rooted the Droid X. The crapware Motorola put on that thing is horrendous.
@jaytkay Those watches look amazing. I actually might try and get one of them when mine finally stops working.
Boo everyone who said no. I have the 16gb model nano and it is simply the best i-thingy I have ever owned. I bought it to replace my iPod touch, which apparently cracks its screen when you look at it funny, let alone subject it to moderate (normal) use. I have had mine for 4+ months now and cannot be happier.
Pros: Fantastic battery life, intuitive interface, beautiful touchscreen, large storage capability (for its size), super robust clip (not the first thing you’d think of when purchasing, but you will appreciate it when you own it)
Cons: No video capture (who cares), No video playback (who cares), inadequacy issues (everyone else’s iPod is bigger than mine)... so really, none. Go buy one.
@Atacama For many (myself included) the lack of video playback is a deal-killer. I don’t know I’d the OP shares that opinion, but they might.
@Atacama It seems more of a question of if it works as a watch, not really an iPod.
And for a watch, I don’t think it’d be very good.
The ipod nano looks good as a watch and by judging that many “smart watches ” r not water proof the ipod nano is the bang on the buck in price and functions. However, the new nano might be released soon i believe that waiting a month or two will do no harm.
