Do you consider a wedding to be an emergency reason to get a visa?

Asked by suzanna28 (684points) May 8th, 2011

I am getting married to my dutch fiancee in the netherlands on the 30th of May. I live legally in europe but am not from europe and therefore need a visa.

I have been granted a visa by the dutch embassy before without needing an appointment . So i assumed it would be the same.

However all of a sudden as I am finalizing my documents this weekend I visit their website and notice that they all of a sudden have an appointment system and there are no appointments available except for 2 days before I am a due to leave.

They say it can take up to 10 days to process a visa application.

Do you think they might take my personal circumstances into account and issue me with an emergency appointment.

What would you do if you were them?

Also what do you advise that I say to them when i call them up tomorrow to try to get an appointment ?

I think that your situation would be considered an emergency as well, I would advise you to explain to them your complete situation and let them know why you didn’t get an appointment earlier.

I hope that all goes well for you and good luck for your wedding.

Explain to them the situation the way you did above. I don’t know if they put the notice all over the place for a while or not. If not I can’t see how they would expect people to just know the change.

What makes this a likely candidate for “emergency” application is that the rules have changed and you didn’t know about that. Good luck.

Unfortunately it really doesn’t matter what the good jellies of fluther think. This is totally up to the folks at the embassy.

Good luck, and I hope it all works out for you.
