I’ll get back to you.
Ok it seems the Ggantija structure in Malta is the oldest at more than 6000 years of age. But why do I have this nagging feeling we have not even scratched the surface yet on our planet’s entire history.

According to the Greek culture ministry it is this
I think it is the shed in my backyard.
@mazingerz88 – well that is the beauty of this planet, there is always something new to discover and different cultures to learn about!
A stone cirlce in Mpumalanga, south africa called Adam’s Calander. Estimated to be 75000 years old.
Wild @Lightlyseared. That predates written language. How could they have made the plans for that one without written language?
lots of yelling going on at that construction site
Makes sense @Nullo. In that case, I would expect the “circle in Mpumalanga” to be more… i dunno… oblong?

Religion. Sure, it’s a mental construct, but it still stands.
@Mamradpivo Scientology (and humanism, sorta) is the only religion that was indubitably man-made.
I feel that they are all estimated, so it is a little hard to tell. This is from someone ignorant in archaeology, of course. but with some common sense
As far as I personally know, the megalithic temples in Malta are considered to be the oldest standing man-made structures.
The 75,000 years old claim for the circle in South Africa is generally considered to be waaaaay out.
@RealEyesRealizeRealLies
the Bosnian pyramids are not man-made and the Mayan pyramids are, well, Mayan.
That’s news to me. Last I heard there was an excavation going on in the Bosnian pyramids producing artifacts, including giant round spheres and giant unearthed blocks which construct them. Perhaps your news is newer than mine.
The ‘champion’ of this pyramid, a man known as Osmanagić, has been shown to consistently lie and besides, he is a crank.
He said he hopes to excavate the site by 2012, and so “break a cloud of negative energy, allowing the Earth to receive cosmic energy from the centre of the galaxy”
He also said the pyramid was built by the same people as who built those in Egypt…. AND Mexico…
Didn’t know that. But what about the photos of the artifacts? Are they faked? Look pretty impressive, regardless of the crank in charge of the dig.
Skara Brae in Orkney is 5,000 years old and predates the pyramids. It is a Neolithic village remarkably well preserved and the link shows the interior of one of the houses.
Certainly not the oldest, but the Minaret of Jam in Afghanistan is amazing. It’s in the middle of nowhere.
@Nullo, Better?. The other must be from the 1960’s. Note the river has dried up in the newer one.
