Agree or disagree: Dallas Mavs- all class and quality; lakers- immature thuggish punks?

Asked by Brian1946 (32638points) May 9th, 2011

I was a laker fan, until Bynum mugged Michael Beasley driving to the hoop, in a game toward the end of the season.

Now I have the same regard for the lakers (they no longer deserve to have their name spelled with an upper-case L, IMO), that I did for the LameBeer-Rodman Pistons of 20 years ago.

Disagree.

Fandom for a team must reach beyond a single player. If I told you that over the offseason, Mitch Kupchak will jettison Andrew Bynum, how would you feel about the Lakers then? You’d be proud, right? His actions were thuggish and immature, and they were an embarrassment to himself, his team, and the league. But I think it’s irrational and illogical to project his actions on to the organization that employs him.

Secondly, it’s hard for me to respect the Dallas Mavericks when the face of their franchise, their owner Mark Cuban, acts like a boorish, classless clown all the time. The Dallas players might play well as a team (as opposed to the individualism of the Lakers), and are admirable in that vein. But as a basketball fan, I can’t get past Cuban and how classless I think he acts (again, on a regular basis).

I heard a great story about this this morning. It seems many folks feel as you do about the Lakers’ considering their behavior and purposeful fouls. What I am wondering how this is going to impact Phil Jackson’s legacy as their coach, if at all.

@Neurotic_David Mark Cuban said not hardly a word through the whole series. He is passionate about the game and his team. Why fault him for that? What are some examples of this boorish, classless clown? I am curious. I live not too far from Dallas. Guess I missed the classless acts…

Bynum lost more than his composure. I’ll be interested to learn what penalty he will be given when next year’s season begins.
