Where can I buy mangosteens in NYC (or elsewhere in the USA?!) ?

Asked by JonnyCeltics (2721points) May 10th, 2011

Possible the tastiest fruit that exists, mangosteens are indigenous to Thailand, I believe. With the amount of import/export of produce, I can’t find it anywhere (not even in the deep markets of lower Manhattan!). Perhaps it’s an issue of them going rotten, but I doubt it….

You can buy them here…in Hawaii…Well, you asked about elsewhere in the USA…I know it’s far, but there you have it. :)

I have seen them occasionally at Oriental markets in San Diego, CA.

Oriental markets! That’s a great idea. Try some in NYC, or call a Thai restaurant in NYC that you know. They may be able to direct you to where you can get some.

Whole Foods sells them in cans. At least, when I was there last Sunday, they had some. There have got to be a gazillion places that sell them in NYC.

Canned mangosteen is nothing compared to the real thing. I found them at a street market in China Town in NYC before. You just have to ask around a lot.

and your right, it is the tastiest fruit in existence.
