What are some good poems about roses?
I like ‘A Bowl Of Roses’ by Rilke very much, any others?

Roses are red,
Violets are blue.
Sugar is sweet,
And so are you!
I like that one. It’s simple, yet says plenty. It’s not exactly about roses, but they are mentioned.
And some more (slyer) doggerel
Rose Family by Robert Frost
The rose is a rose,
And was always a rose.
But the theory now goes
That the apple’s a rose,
And the pear is, and so’s
The plum, I suppose.
The dear only knows
What will next prove a rose.
You, of course, are a rose—
But were always a rose.
Whoa; I am going to need to spend some time (a lot of time) on the Rilke.
THE ROSE
The lily has a smooth stalk, Will never hurt your hand; But the rose upon her brier Is lady of the land.
There’s sweetness in an apple tree, And profit in the corn; But lady of all beauty Is a rose upon a thorn.
When with moss and honey She tips her bending brier, And half unfolds her glowing heart, She sets the world on fire.
~Christina Rossetti
@scamp; check out the Rilke. Hoover is talking serious poetry.
“The Grave and the Rose” by Victor Hugo
“A rose is a rose is a rose.” – Gertrude Stein
Pithy.
Thanks gail, But I think we should let the asker decide if he likes it or not. I’m not sure what you mean by ‘serious peotry”, but I bet Christina Rossetti would beg to difer.
@scamp; I didn’t mean what you might have thought. I checked out the Rilke, and it was one of the densest, most opaque short poems I have ever…well, I can’t say “read” because I haven’t yet. But I am going to need some time and energy to attack it.
I think that Rossetti writes beautiful verse; I did not mean to imply otherwise.
The Rose is simply more accessable to me than the poem that Hoover noted.
Just found this Roses on a Brier
Also one of C. Rossetti’s.
Thanks gail! It does take some time and effort to “digest” Rike’s Bowl Of Roses. I read it, and I see what you mean. Also thanks for posting Roses on a Brier. It’s beautiful. Oh, and I just read my last post where I was a bit dyslexic with my spelling. I meant to say p*oe*try, not p*eo*try. I tend to do that sometimes, and I just caught it. Time to get some better glasses!
There once was a man named Bertold
Who drank beer when the weather grew cold
As he reached for his cup…
“NEEEEVER GONNA GIVE YOU UP!!!”
Oh, snap! You just got limerickrolled!
