How important is it for you not to work on weekends?
Or to you, a day is a day and jobs come first no matter what? Or is it that weekends are untouchable for you and would refuse a job if it spoils your precious Saturday and Sunday?

I’m the type of person who doesn’t really love sitting around and doing nothing, so I wouldn’t mind doing a job that lasted a few hours on a weekend. However, if it was a job that would last the entire two days, I would be a little wary of doing it. I like to keep busy, but I do need some time to wind down and decompress a little.
It doesn’t bother me at all and have had to do so being in a 24/7 business. If I had children, it might be another matter.
Doesn’t bother me. As long as I get 2 days off in a row, I don’t mind which two they are. Although working Sundays would be a pain because of the reduced bus service (I rely on a bus to get there).
Depending on what I’m doing, sometimes I like working weekends. I’m weird.
I work weekend if and when I have to…thankfully those are far and few between as I live for my time off.
I have two young daughters, and a huge family that plans weekend activities frequently. I will not work weekends. I tried it and hated it.
Weekend is family time for us. When my sons were young and I was working, I failed at a job interview at a hotel where I was applying for a front desk position. They asked if there was a day I couldn’t work and I told them Sunday. They told me that was their busiest day. No big deal though. I found a 9–5 Monday-Friday at a travel agency instead.
I don’t have kids and prefer to not work weekends although sometimes I don’t have a choice. I noticed I have one award for fluthering 30 days in a row, so I must have been in here that long at least once.
I don’t mind as long as it isn’t every weekend. I like having a weekday off. I also like not working more than 4 days in a row.
I’ll work seven days a week when I can, money doesn’t grow on trees…....... :-/
Wait. Not work? On any day? Bwahahahaha. I’m here 7 days a week. :p
@augustlan Well being here for a bit every day definitely wouldn’t be a hardship for me. It was just working outside the home, all weekend long that killed me!
Very – at this point in my life.
I’ve worked on weekends regularly for the last 5 years.
(In fairness 3 of them were while in college so the weekdays weren’t as taxing)
Very important, weekends are for football, beer, hanging out with the lads & lots & lots of sex…....quality time with the family ;¬}
@WillWorkForChocolate Admittedly, working from home isn’t as much of a strain as working elsewhere (for me, with no kids in the house on a regular basis). But I do work about 7 hours here, every day. Good thing I love my job!
Oi vey, I don’t think I could do it for 7 hours…
In police work, it takes a long time of longevity to have Sat, and Sun. off.
I have had every off-day combination you can think of, in 44 years. Off Tues, and Thursday were the worst days. I did not mind working the weekends. Less people on the road, no school buses, and most of the brass were not working.
My 41st year finally won the off-day position I had been waiting for…...Sun, and Monday. I loved these two off days because I could go to church on Sunday and take care of my personal business on Monday.
Sure, being off Sat, and Sunday sounds great, but not so in all occupations.
For over a decade then weekends have been part of my regular work week. Days off can only be Mon-Fri. I’ve come to appreciate having a business day off though because doctors, dentists and most businesses stay open later during the week than on the weekends. Having no kids means I’m not missing time with anyone (my partner is in the same business as I) and I often find hotels, airlines and rental car companies give discounts for Mon-Fri. buyers.
If I had to work weekends, I don’t know how we’d survive. There’s too much to do at home that only gets done on weekends.
Weekends tend to be busy times for my son when he’s involved in sports and it’s always when we have family events. I’m not against working some weekends, but I’d prefer not to work every weekend.
@wundayatta Why can’t you do those things on a Tuesday or Wednesday?
@JLeslie Because we work. We have children. We have all kinds of things to do. If we had to do stuff on week nights, we’d not have dinner or see each other. There wouldn’t be much point in the marriage.
@wundayatta I perceived the orginal question as being still a 5 day 40 hour work week, just a choice of M-F or varied schedule. Maybe I am incorrect though?
I usually work Saturdays on top of my full time job so it is important for me to not work on Sundays where possible so that I get at least one day off a week.
Considering with spend more time at work than we do at home, I appreciate Saturday and Sunday off.
Unfortunately, I don’t have any rich relatives and I’m not gonna hit the lotto soon so I have to work the occasional weekend.
I hate it, but one does what one has to do.
I don’t really do much otherwise since I’m in school, but as long as I can sleep in at least a bit, I’m alright with doing some work.
Now that the kids are grown, I don’t mind working weekends or late into the evening, but I don’t like it to be expected, as I’m salaried and am not paid any more for working more, nor do I get comp time. I wouldn’t mind working Sundays if I could have Wednesdays off.
Its important. This is prime BEER time. :)
I’m self employed and can work any day I choose but I do try to keep the weekend open, unless I had the rest of the week off then a weekend wouldn’t bug me as much.
