What should I buy for a teen?

Asked by Magdalene (413points) May 12th, 2011

This girl I know is one of my relatives and she has her birthday in the coming month, but I am little confused to buy anything for her as she is very choosy and don’t have love for so many things. She is a sweet and a calm girl. Do you think a pair of diamond ear ring would work or something else….any suggestions?

Does she have a specific hobby? I mean, if she likes reading, then get her a book. If she likes video games, then see what game she likes and get it for her. etc.

Save the diamonds until she is older, but jewelry is a nice idea. Ask her mother what she might like.

Most teens like to get money or gift cards so they can go shopping with their friends, especially if she is very particular. You could always ask her if there is something particular that she would like to have. Often the surprise is less important than getting exactly something you would like to have.

What are her interests?

Money is always the best route to go.

A crisp $100 bill in a card.

Try an iTunes gift card and save the earrings for High School graduation.

Gift card means they have to spend it. Money gives them the option to save it. When I was young I never spent one penny of the money given to me for birthdays and Chanukah.

Wish you could get some insight on her favorite hobbies so you could surprise her with a nice gift. I love doing that personally. I don’t give gift cards if I have the option to make the person feel special by actually making an effort to understand what he or she really likes. A gift card of course is the safest route to go. But whatever makes you comfortable really.

How old is she gonna be? Interests vary on a year-age bracket. But yes, save the diamonds until she’s 18 or older.

I haven’t met a kid yet who didn’t enjoy a crisp bill on some sort. What is her age? Are you familiar with her tastes at all? Some girls are into designer stuffs at young ages, some are into gaming or specific activities. Find out from her parents if she’s expressed wanting to save towards a big ticket item like a trip, music/singing lessons, bike/scooter/car and specify your cash contribution in a handwritten card.
