Figuratively speaking that is. Any of your possessions which you treasure above all others. Maybe a collection of something, or perhaps family heirlooms, stuff you retained from your childhood.

My silly collection of movie ticket stubs from every movie I’ve gone to since my first daughter was born. I also keep every card that I, my husband or my children receive for Christmas, birthdays and such. And I have a lot of things saved back for my daughters from when they were babies.
A pair of stamped copper bracelets that were once an anniversary gift to my great aunt from her husband. She gave them to me while still alive. They are my “Wonder Woman” cuffs.
My childhood teddybear. He has only a tuft or so of fur left, his body endured a few ugly hippie patches/repairs in the 70’s and his chest squeaker has long been silent. He rests inside an antique camelback chest alongside a few more stuffed animals of mine, photographs and rubber molds of some pieces from when I designed jewelry.
4 pieces of wall art and once stained glass art deco table lamp/box.
A necklace my great grandma got from her husband on their first anniversary. If my house caught fire, I’d save my pets, my laptop and that necklace.
Mmm..I am not particularly attached to ‘stuff.’ But..I do cherish my daughters baby and growing up photo albums, my writing portfolio and my vintage persian rug.
Of course, my pets. Otherwise…if you like something I have that much, it’s yours. :-)
Photographs and jewelry from my mother.
Postcards. My grandparents were serious travelers and always sent a postcard. I was surprised when I went back and looked at the collection I amassed until I was maybe 22. There were so many.
My grandma’s jewellery, my childhood teddies, my first book ever and a pinecone from my first trip to the park :)
@Coloma that was a very thoughtful and generous thing to say. (:
Family photographs, an embroidered picture my mother made and some school day jotters.
Family photos. Many black and white including mom on her sixteenth birthday and one of her in her Christening dress
. Most everything else can be replaced.
Family photos and photos I’ve taken. All my extant writings.
My guitars, my 24 Frank Zappa albums in mint condition and my harmonica and kazoos that were given to me by my friend who said I needed to expand my musical horizons! ;)
Maybe not my most cherished possessions but definitely the most special in a way is a set of hand-carved-cherry-framed mirrors.
One is vaguely in the shape of a treble clef with nouveau flourishes at the bottom and pointy bits. The other is – you guessed it – a mirror image of that shape.
I found one of them while disinterestedly tagging along in a dusty antique barn and when I found out there was another I got them. They’re cooler than anything the folks I was tagging along with ever found.
I keep all kinds of odd things…I collect rocks from various places like France (sandstone from the beach) and Switzerland (smooth river pebbles) ...I keep one of my father’s old pocket handkerchiefs. It reminds me of him with it’s plaid blue border. My Mom taught me to iron by giving me Dad’s handkerchiefs to do. I have a collection of bone china figurines of different animals which I collected as a child. I have a couple old letters from my Dad from his days in the army before he was married. Women who wrote to him out of kindness that he didn’t know.He kept those letters forever. Of course I have lots of photographs that are special to me. Then I have poetry and drawings which I have done. I have a hospital bracelet from the time I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Disease On a funny note, I can’t seem to throw out the old notification letter that said (after 10 long years) that my student loan debt was now completely paid off! Yay!!!
@Earthgirl nice rock collection !
I have a flipped frisbee full of beach stones collected because I could see into them when the waves had them wet. They are typically quartz, fissured in random planes. Some are smacked up enough to be consistently brilliant white throughout like sunlit clouds.
But the coolest of these have some clear sections that are obscured by a diffusing unpolished surface – that disappears when wet.
dabbler Sounds cool. I need to look at my rocks again to remember them all. When they are wet they look different and usually more beautiful! The France rocks remind me of the caves at Lascaux with the cave paintings. Oh and I forgot another thing that I have in my collection! It’s fossilized dinosaur bone! For real! A co-worker of mine goes on excavations for a hobby. He takes a vacation and goes to Montana or wherever the helll they do digs and he iis allowed to take samples and he brings them in and shares the wealth. It is so awesome to hold a piece of fossilized dinosaur bone in your hand and imagine how ancient it is. How once it was a part of a living breathing creature that is now extinct!
