What are some creative ways to display poetry in your home?

Asked by ANef_is_Enuf (26839points) May 16th, 2011

I have found a short poem that really touched me, and I would like to somehow display it in a creative manner in my home. (Short of writing it out and slapping it in a frame.)

What creative ways might you display text in your house?

I have never displayed it in my house, but I did slap one of my dad’s favorites in a frame for him.XD
I have put poems between the pages of library books for someone to find.
I do have wooden boxes in my home that might need a poem or two in them.
“Annabel Lee” in a sepulchre under the end table? ....Poe-em in a box?—I need to get a coffee…—XD

You could get any type of frame you desire. I’ll take a exto knife to any type of hard paper thats fitted to the frame, and make your own spacing and cut outs. I did a multipic theme with old school family pictures once. I didn’t care if it was straight I just cut the holes. On the paper I drew randon pics tures of fairys and water colored them in. The fact the picture spacing was uneven really made it pop. Maybe you could take the poem and and photos of your life that relates, and you could have an awesome project.

I sometimes use those alphabet fridge magnets for this. Leave little messages for the wife, just to show I care.

I love your cooking, it helps me stay much thinner
That’s only because you always burn my dinner!!

Ahh, i’m so romantic like that ;¬}

Once I typed out a poem in a font I really liked (it was a gift for a friend, so I can’t remember the finer details such as what font, etc) on water paper. It took a few practice runs but I eventually got the result I wanted. I then frayed the paper and brushed the edges with water. I placed a sheet of coloured crepe paper behind the frayed water paper and framed it in a plain thick black frame. It turned out really nice.

I thought about getting one of my favorite quotes specially made so that I could put it up on the wall (perhaps with the cling on wall art things that they have out these days). Maybe you could do something like that if you have a good space for it.

If it is short, you could stencil it on a wall, either vertically or horizontally around the area where the wall abuts the ceiling.

A nice scrapbooking page. Perhaps add photos relating to the verse. Then frame it.

Create a document(s) of them. Then save them as an image file. Save them to an electronic photo frame and put it somewhere that you can see it. Set the refresh rate long enough to read.

Calligraphy your favorite poems and put them onto paper, wood plaques, etc
Frame them, pin them, hang them, refrig magnet them, cycle them through, put a fav up near the bathroom mirror so you read it everyday.

Find a suitable image to go with the poem and frame the result. Or you could embroider the words into a pillow or night gown. A carpenter could perhaps carve the words into furniture and you could fill using wood filler of a different colour.

Depending on how long it is, you could have vinyl letters created and use it as a room border. Or, paint it in a decorative manner on the back of the bathroom door, when a captive audience will be sure to read it.

you could paint it right on the wall, or make fancy letters from paper and arrange them on the wall as the poem.

Frame it and put it up on the wall.
