What does it mean when one says "You're like the book, I never want to finish"?

I have never heard this term, but I would guess that it means that the person who said it is having a great time with the person he said it about.

I wouldn’t guess that it was love or infatuation.

He doesn’t want your relationship to end. Very romantically phrased.

I remember hearing this on the show In Living Color back when I was a youth. I’m not sure of the Etymology of the phrase. But that is where I am remembering it first.

Am I the only one who thinks the reverse? A book I like I can’t stop reading, finish and re-read. A book I never want to finish, is one I regret starting. But it’s probably just me. Likely @marinelife got his/her sentiment.

@phoebusg eh, i defintely get the other way around. Not always, but an excellent book with a well-crafted world (i usually read scifi/fantasy, where that would make sense, but even non-fiction has it’s own ‘world’ seperate from ours) I tend to get sucked in, and really enjoy my time there. To finish the book means to end my time in that world. Even rereading isn’t quite the same unless there’s been years in between for me to forget (not that I don’t, but it’s not the same).

So, to @senthilkumar, I think it means that. They’re having a great time with you, and they never want to go back to what it was like before. It could be love or infatuation, really. They so often feel the same. But it is quite romantic.

@BhacSsylan good point, it’d work for some fiction – my favorite is Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance by Pirsig. I’ve read through it 6 times, and the 7th it was read to me (audiobook) – once I’m in that “world” I tend to want to complete the cycle—it’s philosophy/fiction/etc—but yes good points :)

It could mean you are like the book that they never want to pick up to read again,much like Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The House of the Seven Gables.Shoot me now ;)

As I neared the end of Game of Thrones by George R R Martin earlier this week, I found myself slowing down to prolong the time I had left with the book.

Liked it that much, I guess.
