no that is for people who don’t have an identity of their own
Not a character no, but I do relate and identify with the movie Fight Club on some but not all levels.
Hmmm…sometimes I felt like I identified with Andrew Largeman in Garden State. I dunno, I was really moody at the time of viewing. I think his yearning nature and lack of direction XD
Currently, I identify with Scott Pilgrim. Dunno why…
@DrBill I’d have to disagree. I believe one can identify (as in, heavily relate) to a character in film, literature etc. I don’t think people should take on every single trait of a character to be 100% like him/her, but I don’t think there’s a lack of identity in a person just because they connect at a higher level with a fictional person.
I also think thats part of why people enjoy reading literature and watching film, because they can identify with certain characters. That’s why we take sides when two (or more) are fighting against each other, or why we cry when a particular character is going through something we’re also emotional about.
Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, because she sees things that other people don’t.
Sure!
Lena Olin as Mona Demarkov in Romeo is Bleeding.
I will beat you with my prosthetic arm. ;)
I feel like the Headless Horseman from Sleepy Hollow. Sometimes it feels like I exist only for one thing, which is merely followed through by having my strings manipulated by some fuck. I can’t get any rest, and that’s all I ask.
Okay so I’m being overly dramatic lol, but the relation to the horseman being manipulated to take heads in a specific order to benefit the purposes of someone else, I find is a nice reflection of living in a society where I only exist to pay for things, while some bloated monsters sit atop their ivory towers, getting rich from existence. Not that I’m being manipulated, but the way stuff works hardly makes ’‘choices’’ choices.
However, as Lady Van Tassel’s plan failed her in the end, so too, must an ivory tower one day crumble…hahahaha. ’‘screeches in the dead of night’’
Wait how do I scream with no head…hmm. ’‘scratches noggi- damnit! XD
I always felt sorry for the poor horseman. I guess he was a bitch while living, but he wouldn’t have been such an awesome and feared ghost had he not been created as a product of his own society to begin with. Yeah I make no sense haha. XD I’m using him to hide my own emo-ness.
I really identified with Count Laszlo de Almasy from The English Patient, mostly out of arrogance and yearning, though, since we aren’t much alike besides being losers in love in totally different senses. But I notice that I tend to identify with the unsung heroes and the guys who don’t get the girl in the end. It’s easier to identify with characters in books, so guys like Sal Paradise from On the Road.
@ddude1116 I’m curious, are you familiar with Cyrano de Bergerac? He’s the goddamn win. :)
@Symbeline No, I’ve never heard of him… But that name is made of win. Who is he?
A guy who loved a girl. He had a huge nose though, and was ridiculed by all. Some other dude fell in love with the girl. Cyrano wrote love poems and gave them to the other guy to give to her. She fell in love with the guy because the poems were made of win. Eventually though, she found out that the guy with the big nose wrote them all…
This Cyrano guy was badass enough that he didn’t care that at first, his love interest thought his words came from another…as long as she read them. Fuck Romeo and Juliet lol. This was originally a play if I’m not mistaken, but it has a cool movie, too.
I’ll look into that! That sounds like a fantastic story.. Good romances are difficult to come by, too.
@Carly
I would agree. but some do take it to an unhealthy level. One I was thinking of has went so far as to model his appearance and actions after one specific actor/role to the point he even has his grandchildren call him by the characters name.
I see nothing wrong with drawing comparisons with roles as long as it does not take over your life.
