Subtle yet distinctive engagement ring?

Asked by sarahsugs (2906points) June 10th, 2007
All the engagement rings I've looked at look more or less the same and are pretty conventional. Plus, most are way too flashy and big. Any suggestions of designers/websites I could look at to find something subtle, yet still unusual?

Look for local galleries of independent artists/metalsmiths/jewelers. Contact SNAG (Society of North American Goldsmiths) for jewelers in your area. www.snagmetalsmith.org/

Buy a vintage ring. Older jewelry is more varied, and often better made than the latest work. Most brides don't want "someone else's" ring, so you also get a lot for your money. This works particularly well if, like my wife, you have smaller hands, since apparently women had smaller ring sizes in past generations.
