How can I kiss someone without taking it too far?

I have a problem when it comes to first kisses: I never know what to do after the kiss, so it tends to lead to making out and so-on and so-forth because I don’t know how to stop without seeming rude. Does anyone have any tips for stopping after a first kiss without seeming disinterested?
