There are roughly 6000 tigers left on the planet, all sub-species combined.
Maybe half of them are in the wild, most in the indo-china area.
“There are around 3,000 wild tigers in the world, of which around half live in India.
The (2011) census, being published tomorrow, is believed to put the total number of wild tigers in India at around 1,550 – 10% more than in 2008.”

@HungryGuy we wouldn’t have to worry that much about man eater tigers if we weren’t encroaching on their territory now would we. The real sad thing is though was that back in the mid 90’s, there was a bit more than 3,000 bengal tigers left in the wild. It’s pretty sad to see that now all tigers barely add up to the amount of bengal tigers over a decade ago.
OK so for the mod who thought my comment was unhelpful…
There are around 3,500 tigers left in the wild. There are an estimated 1,400 tigers left in the India (figures from the WWF). There are an estimated 10,000 tigers in private ownership (ie pets) in the US (figure from the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service). You may not like the fact but to mod it as unhelpful is fucking insulting.
