If you have superpowers and decides to be a superhero, would you tell the world or hide your identity?

Asked by mazingerz88 (29261points) May 20th, 2011

Who wouldn’t want to be a superhero? But how does one decide whether to hide your identity or let everyone know. For sure, each one would have his or her own unique reasons and rationalizations. What are yours and why?

Hide, the family would always be asking for favors.

I would start wearing my underpants outside my trousers, but otherwise no one will know.

I would hide it. But I certainly would not under any circumstances wear one of those ridiculous costumes.
except maybe one of these

Hide. I wouldn’t my life ruined like a celebrity.

I’d hide it. The fun is in hiding and watching the whole world puzzle and wonder in awe but in a nice way. I think when the identity gets revealed people somehow tend to take things for granted. Not that I want to be important.

Definitely hide my identity, i’d be too shy to have the world & their wife stare & point at me lycra clad legs.
Put me right off it would, my name? Why it’s Bashful Basher of course XD

First I would fake my death. After that I would go into hiding.

I would be a full time superhero 40–60 hours per week. I might have a personal life but I would definitely keep everything secret. I would try to blend in, and not stick out in anyway. Street clothes superhero, I might even wear disguises. You wouldn’t know me from Banksy.

I wouldn’t want any glory, or to be known at all, by anyone. I would work in the shadows of night. I would not fight petty crime though. I’d fry the bigger fish. More of a V then a Superman.

I would choose invisibility as my power and I would only tell a few select people, people who needed my invisibility. I like to think I would only use it for good, but the truth is, I’m insatiably curious and yearn to be a fly on the wall. I’d have a hard time deciding which wall I’d choose first.

Why anyone would care, I have no idea, but I would not go public. I have no desire to live the life of the famous. I like my fluthering time.

I would not let anyone know, and I would probably go the super villain route.

I’d tell two or three trustworthy friends. Other than that, are you kidding? Folks’d be on me all day long to rescue them from something, and it’d probably be something they could handle on their own if they’d apply themselves, but are too scared/lazy/impatient to do.

Hide my identity so I could maintain a semblance of a private life.

I’d hide it. With an anxiety disorder, it’s one of the last things I’d want.

erichw1504's avatar

I would let everyone know that my arms can fall off!

gm_pansa1's avatar

I’d hide it. I like mystery.

Ajulutsikael's avatar

I’d hide my identity only because I want a degree of normalcy in my life. Also loved ones of superheroes are always under attack.

incendiary_dan's avatar

If I were a superhero, and I did it right, nobody would even know I exist. Too many potential enemies.

laineybug's avatar

I’d definitely hide it.

I think I’d let it fall somewhere in between being secret and going public. Like if I were Superman, I’d be okay if @lucillelucillelucille asked for help in moving. But I’m not going to get a phone line to the commissioner or anything.

I wouldn’t want to be a superhero #1, and I’d keep it secret and well as my power to an extent (mask it as perhaps something else), my opponents not knowing my power until they fight me puts them at a great disadvantage #2.

mazingerz88's avatar

I would reveal myself only to Oprah. And maybe Dr. Phil.

I would hide it. Just for the sake of tradition. I whored over DC comics for years, I know how it works and the repercussions of not hiding it. Though, I’d most likely be much more of an anti-hero, so I,could devote all my time to saving people. That doesn’t have much of an income, so I’d need to steal food and such. But being a superhero, I could just live with a friend and have them provide for me..

You would have to hide it, or live totally alone. Your friends and family would be constant targets of people like The Joker or the Green Goblin or the like.
