Do you have any funny little tools or gadgets on your computer that you use all the time and find very helpful?

Asked by Bellatrix (21317points) May 21st, 2011

One I use quite often is WordWeb, which is a little dictionary/thesaurus that just sits on my tool bar and I can easily access when writing and I get a “how the heck do you spell that” moment or need to find another word to use. It is free to download unless you fly a lot. Every so often it asks you to specify if you are environmentally conscious and don’t fly too often or if you offset your carbon footprint when you do.

What little tools and gadgets have you found that you really like and can share with us?

Are you on Windows? I use this gadget called Rocket Dock that replicates the bar thingy on a Mac.

The Mac Dashboard is pretty useful and cool to look at. My favorite is the Thesaurus and Dictionary bar.

Launchy has made using my computer a much more efficient experience.

I’m not a very sophisticated computer user and you’re probably not going to like my answer. Sitting on the foot of my I-Mac is a seven inch stuffed sea otter on its back and holding a starfish. It’s for cleaning my computer screen. Non-technical as can be, but I like it.

Who am I not to like your screen cleaning device? If it works for you, it is a good device.

I used GeekTool to spice up my second monitor.

I like to keep Maxa Cookie Manager running when I’m online. It at least gives me the illusion of protecting my privacy and I get a little satisfaction from zapping the tracking cookies as soon as they show up.

Thank you everybody, I will try some of these out. It just occurred to me I find lots of interesting little things and I wondered what tools you found very useful. Thanks!
