What kind of tattoos do you have?
Alright, Wundayatta and Simone have inspired me to ask this question. What tattoos do you have? What do they mean? Why did you get them?
As of now, I have a skeleton key on my chest with my adoptive mother’s name in it and a day of the dead skull on one of my arms.

What’s with the tattoo questions today? I do have a KatetheGreat tattoo on my chest. Lol. No it’s actually on my left shoulder and it’s a burning red and yellow sun.
I accidentally jabbed myself with a very sharp pencil when I was in 4th grade and the pencil lead tattooed a spot on the palm of my hand.
I hate a tattoo of a butt, on my butt with a tattoo of a butt on it. I also have a tatto of poop on my buttcrack so when I moon people it looks like I never wipe.
Just two, small pretty designs. All black.
I have plans to get more eventually… still working on it, though. I rarely spend money on myself, so it will have to be a very special event.
I have too many typos in my last post so I flagged it LOL
Here are the two on my back. I also have a small family of sea turtles on my left calf, just above the heel.
I have a tattoo of a little black spider on my wrist. It represents creativity.
None. It means that I believe nature endowed us with a marvelous work of art and to intentionally deface it is disrespectful.
@YoBob it isn’t defacing, it’s embellishing. ;)
Different strokes.
As for me, I would tend to view a fig leaf added to Michelangelo’s David as vandalism rather than embellishment.
I have the word “Fides” tattooed on the outside of my right ankle and a blue bird by my oldest step-son on the outside of my right ankle.
I have a triquetra on my ankle, and my sister’s name on my wrist. Both are in black.
@YoBob Would you feel that way if Michaelangelo had been the one to suggest the fig leaf, the one to put the fig leaf there?
I have a couple of tattoos but they are kinda hard to explain in words. I like things that are interesting.
None. Just the vasectomy scar and the 4 small slots where they slurped out my prostate.
I couldn’t imagine liking any design so much that I had to carry it around with me 24/7.
I have two amateur tattoos. The first is a heart on my left hand. It was done to symbolize the friendship of a large group of friends back when I was a senior in high school. I’m no longer friends with any of these people. I wouldn’t mind having it re-done into the shape of a butterfly or something else some day.
The second was done by the boyfriend of a friend of mine when I was in college in San Luis Obispo. It’s a dolphin on my right ankle. I do like this one.
I have quite a few. I have a moon on my forehead, got that when I converted to a pagan faith. I have the eye of ra on my arm, the moon and star symbol from the Islamic faith, a baby pegaus, Oda Nobunaga’s crest, a batgirl symbol in honor of my daughter, a luna moth, a thundercats tattoo, one that says Destroy in honor of my cat. I have a predator symbol on the back of my neck. I believe that is it so far.
I don’t have any, but both my daughters do, and my younger daughter works as a body piercer, and she has LOTS of tats.
I have a large, icy blue Celtic cat knot on the center of my lower back. It’s based on a Jen Delyth image that I fell in love with when I was younger. I’ve always felt a certain kinship with cats since my cat was the only stable element in my life growing up. I had wanted it done much smaller on my shoulder, but when I found out I’d lose too much detail, I decided to go big and placed it on my lower back instead.
About a year later, I had the image re-worked to give it some more dimension and to adjust some elements that didn’t quite match up with my personality. I decided to soften the image somewhat by adding some orange day lilies and vines on each side. I wanted them because day lilies are my favorite flower.
This past year, I had a blue raven added to the existing design. It’s standing on the cat knot and intertwined with more vines, orange flowers and another orange day lily. It took a long time but the artist was genius and I was quite impressed with her artistic skill.
Anyway, ravens (and cats, for that matter) are terribly clever and have amazing survival instincts. Despite difficult times, they can adapt and overcome. I think of my back piece as a reminder of my own ability to survive in desperate times, that I have done the same and will continue to do so no matter what. Oh and they’re also very nice to look at as well :)
@MyNewtBoobs – “Would you feel that way if Michaelangelo had been the one to suggest the fig leaf, the one to put the fig leaf there?”
Of course not, just as I would not consider a vibrantly colored image of a dragon across one’s back to be a defacement of the work of art we have been endowed with if nature saw fit to put it there. As it is, I’m quite happy with the skin I am in and am not inclined to put graffiti on it.
My son’s name on my shoulder.
