How is a hard wired smoke detector repaired that is occasionally beeping?

Asked by kelly (1918points) May 24th, 2011

Smoke detector is occasionally beeping as would a battery model if battery is low; but this one is wired, no battery? Could the “sensor” need replacement? If so, how is this done?

Make double sure there is not a battery ( backup for electric failure ). I had to climb up a fifteen foot ladder in cathedral ceiling room. At #$%^&^#$%^!#$ 2 AM Battery was on it’s last legs.

“Hard wired” and all the other alarms on the circuit would chirp in unison. Found the dead / dying battery in third room.

I’m with @Tropical_Willie. I can’t stand a constant beeping like that. I would be tearing it out of the wall, wires and all. Has to be a back up battery issue though.

thanks. It’s in basement and others are not chirping, so I’m going for battery. Tomorrow.

Same thing happened to me. Turns out the backup battery in one unit was loose.

replace the batteries. I think it is a warning sign that the battery is dying.

It happened to me…. was quite annoying… then i asked my landlord to change the battery and voila it stopped
