When you look in the mirror, is the reflection similar to the image you have of yourself?

Does it surprise you sometimes?
Do you sometimes look older or younger than you feel – or that you think you appear to others?

Very different.
In my mind I’m thinner and younger. When I see a current pic of myself, I wonder who the old man is.
I look like me. I also look in the mirror often. I presume if I didn’t and assumed I was perfect, I’d be surprised. Thus, nobody is perfect. ;)
Sometimes in the morning I wonder who is that reverse vampire who preceded me into the bathroom. Invisible in person, only the reflection shows.
Oddly enough I was fighting with and ex on the phone tonight (in case you fluther jellies want to know, lol ‘knowing you dont, but thats okay’), and he told me to look in the __mirror__. A great insult. The odd thing is that I’m fine with me and I think I’m pretty. Maybe he was trying to get at my self esteem (which is fine) he said that I’m ugly. So, I’m going to post a real picture of me as my avatar. I can seem shallow at times, so I think he was trying to hit hard. It’s not about what you look like it’s about how you feel about yourself that matters. I’m 5’10” and I weight 146 pounds. I’m okay. He’s a shallow jerk. I don’t have lots of pictures on my computer cause it’s new but I think from now on my avatar will show my true self.
@Pele – though you’ve only been here a few weeks – you’ve accumulated a lot of lurve – which means you’ve interacted here quite a bit already – which means you know that we actually do care about each other – and we’re a community as well as a QandA site. I looked: you’re pretty. He’s a jerk.
NO! I’m perpetually 27. Who the hell is that person with gray hair and a little to much weight? Get the hell out of my mirror!
Yes. It’s when I look at photographs of myself that I recoil in horror and disgust.
Thanks @ zen , that’s really kind of you.
Besides, @Pele , that whole scary volcano goddess thing you’ve got going on has all the boys here seriously aquiver… ;-)

Not entirely no. I see a man with a shaved head, well manicured facial stubble & “come to bed” eyes XD
What I should see staring back at me is an 8yr old boy sticking his tongue out, holding a catapult in one hand & a water pistol in the other.
The image is completed with a mischeivous glint in his eye.
Just went and looked. Today: exactly.
@Pele Your ex is an idiot. You look great.
Very different. In my mind I’m taller, thinner, and with better bone structure. I try to avoid mirrors when I’m feeling blah about myself.
Hey, it’s the truth. But thanks =)
It’s pretty much what I expect (Ok, perhaps a bit older… ;))
Exactly. Except for the wrinkles. But if I look in the mirror from 8 feet away. . . that’s more like it.
How can a reflection get grey hair and wrinkles?
I can’t say…my reflection never appears in the mirror.
Haha no, I don’t really get surprised. I know what I look like, and never get many surprises, although sometimes my hair in the morning freaks me out.
I somewhat have a similar image of myself.. but still I doubt I’m right. Sometimes when I’m tired, I feel ugly, sometimes when I’m well rested, I feel great… But apparently to others, I look the same all the time..hahah But really, I usually think that mirrors don’t seem to suffice, as I can’t really see what everyone else sees of me!. ..
